Jarrett was very busy with work, so our first meeting was arranged downstairs at his office. He wore a light gray engineering suit, his facial features were refined, and his smile was warm. I was shocked—how did my mom have such a high-quality match available? During our meal, he briefly explained his situation.
He was 35 years old, with an annual salary of 100,000, working as an overseas repair and after-sales engineer, constantly on business trips abroad.
After the meal, he expressed his satisfaction with me, but delicately brought up a topic.
"I don't know if your mom mentioned it, but I have a five-year-old son who's in kindergarten."
I nodded.
Adolescents are rebellious by nature, but I couldn't understand how a five-year-old could have mental issues. Could Jarrett have some violent tendencies or peculiar habits?
I lifted my gaze and gave him another once-over. His hands were tightly clenched into fists, and he forced a clear yet foolish smile, looking at me with anticipation. He seemed like an honest guy.
"Can I ask why you divorced your ex-wife?"
Jarrett fell silent for a moment. "It wasn't a divorce, it was a loss. She passed away due to amniotic fluid embolism," he said. I was stunned. My mother hadn't mentioned this to me.
"When my son was born, I was traveling everywhere for work. He was raised by his grandparents, and when he was four, I brought him back, and he..."
He trailed off awkwardly, rubbing his hands together, then tentatively asked for my opinion.
I took my time to think, then finally said, "I also have a three-year-old fur baby who has to be with me. I'm not sure if you'd be okay with that."
