The doctor told me that Lysander's problem wasn't too serious and should improve after a few months of rest. After leaving the clinic, I went straight home.
I put away the wedding photos and moved all of my personal items from the master bedroom to the guest room. After confirming there were no signs of it, I headed to the hospital. When Lysander saw me again, he immediately changed from his usual cold demeanor.
He looked at me and asked in the lowest possible voice: "I heard we're living together?"
Alistair, who was nearby, was holding back his laughter, almost giving himself an injury. I held back my laughter and replied expressionlessly, "To be precise, we're sharing the rent."
"Sharing the rent?" Lysander seemed utterly incredulous. "Me and you?"
"Yes."
"You went bankrupt, spent all your savings, have no income, and only have a house left with an unfinished mortgage, so you had to share rent with someone to survive."
I wasn't lying.
Because this was exactly the excuse Lysander came up with when he wanted to live with me. And for some reason, I believed it.
Lysander paused for a few seconds, then turned to Alistair in disbelief.
Alistair quickly wiped the smile off his face, patted Lysander on the shoulder, and sighed.
"Dude, it's true."
"You really are broke right now. Last month, you borrowed money from me to pay the mortgage."
Alistair was such a natural at lying that he didn't even need a script.
"Am I a poor beggar now?"
Lysander closed his eyes silently, looking a little dead inside.
I could understand.
After all, who wouldn't break down after realizing they not only lost three years of memories but also went from being a wealthy heir to a broke guy?
He looked at me, embarrassed, and asked, "So, you mean I'm relying on you to support me now?"
His current demeanor was somewhat endearing.
If I weren't still playing my part, I would have kissed him already.
I suppressed the inappropriate thought and responded as distantly as possible: "Not exactly. We're just landlord and tenant."
Perhaps because our relationship was too simple, Lysander seemed disappointed by my answer.
Alistair's eyes met mine, and I immediately understood his meaning.
This show was too fun; he still wanted to keep it going.
He pretended to be unfamiliar with me and spoke as politely as possible: "Georgiana ... Miss Vale, since Lysander had an accident and can't take care of himself, could you take care of him for the next month or two?"
"Just feed him and let it count toward the rent for the next few months."
When Lysander heard this, his eyes immediately lit up.
He looked as if saying, "How didn't I think of that, you truly are my good buddy!"
I didn't reply, appearing somewhat troubled.
Lysander raised his head, looking at me carefully, "Is that okay?"
Tsk.
He had married me with this innocent, harmless face back then. I never expected that years later, he would still be using the same trick.
I gave him a smile. "Okay then."
