The next morning, I woke from a dream.
Leander's arm was wrapped around my waist.
His features had grown sharper and more mature than I remembered. The boyish charm had been replaced with rugged masculinity.
Suddenly, his lashes fluttered, and he opened his eyes to meet mine.
His narrow eyes squinted slightly, and a faint smirk tugged at his lips. "I've been waiting. I thought you might kiss me."
My ears burned as I pushed his arm away. "I didn't."
He chuckled. "It's not like you haven't before."
I got up and checked my phone.
A fellow photographer had messaged me, congratulating me on my work winning at an international photography exhibition.
"I don't remember submitting anything to an overseas competition."
"I saw the exhibition," Leander said. "You took a photo of a shepherd girl."
I hadn't expected him to follow such things.
Startled, I paused before replying, "I remember now. That was from a trip two years ago. My mentor mentioned submitting it."
I found my mentor's contact and sent him a thank-you message.
Leander leaned closer, glancing at my screen. "Your mentor... invites you to play games?"
"We're just friends," I said quickly.
Almost immediately, a reply popped up: "Just treat me to a meal."
I turned to look at Leander.
His sharp features softened slightly. "Don't worry. My temper is much better now."
Even as he said that, the possessiveness in his eyes betrayed him.
He leaned down and kissed me forcefully, biting my lips lightly. His voice was husky as he murmured, "Indra, let's get back together."
"No."
"Then take me with you when you meet him for dinner?"
"You're not my boyfriend."
"Just say I'm your bodyguard."
I instinctively tried to push him away, but he caught my wrists and kissed me deeply, only releasing me after a long moment.
Out of the corner of my eye, I caught sight of the tattoo behind his ear.
A strange mix of emotions surged within me—bitterness and sadness.
"What's the story behind that tattoo?" I asked.
Leander stiffened.
I realized we might have crossed a line.
Sighing, I said, "You should go."
He seemed amused. "I have an important meeting this afternoon. I was leaving anyway."
"I've mentioned the tattoo in a magazine interview. If you're curious, buy a copy and read it."
He put on his coat, bent down, and kissed my forehead. His deep, magnetic voice carried a hint of a smile. "Don't worry. Since we broke up, I've been alone."
