With everyone in class staring, I tried to play it cool as I walked out. Kasey was leaning against the railing, waiting for me.
Just him.
The other members of the student council had probably already left.
He'd even picked a spot where no one from class could see us. At least I wouldn't have to completely embarrass myself.
"I'm sorry, I shouldn't have talked during study time," I started, taking the initiative to apologize.
Kasey raised an eyebrow, just looking at me, not saying anything. He didn't seem too pleased with my answer.
"Uh… I should've kept my voice down?"
We had actually tried to be quiet, so I wasn't sure that was the issue. He still didn't say anything.
"I shouldn't… have hit him?"
I looked up at him, still trying to figure it out. Kasey's tall frame forced me to tilt my head. The light overhead made his hair almost shine, and for a second, I lost focus.
How could someone look that good from this angle?!
Kasey cracked a small smile, breaking his serious expression. I snapped back to reality.
"Jocelyn," he said with a hint of a smirk. "Three strikes and you're out." Three strikes? Wait, that's my line!
"What do you mean by that—"
Before I could finish, Kasey leaned in closer, reducing the distance between us in an instant. Suddenly, Kasey's face loomed close in front of me. He leaned down, closing the distance in an instant. He got so close that his face almost touched mine. I froze in shock.
---
Is this... a punishment???
I only just noticed that the corners of his eyes were slightly red, and his ears were flushed. But his gaze was full of intensity. He simply stared at me, clenched his fist, and his gaze slowly dropped to my lips. Instinctively, I nearly stepped back to regain some space.
Kasey, seemingly anticipating my reaction, reached out and pulled me towards him by the waist. I instinctively closed my eyes, stumbling into his arms.
"Kasey... Kasey?!"
What's going on? This isn't like him. Normally, when I pull on his arm, he stiffens for a while. Doesn't he dislike physical contact?
Luckily, no one was checking the self-study session at this time, and this area was out of sight and had no surveillance. Otherwise, it would have looked like we were in a relationship.
His breath brushed against my ear, tickling.
"Jocelyn."
Kasey tightened his arms around me, resting his head on my shoulder.
"What's... what's going on?"
My face was probably bright red now, and I couldn't even speak properly.
"I don't like him. Don't stay so close to him."
