I sat on Camryn's lap, his arms tightly wrapped around me. He asked when I had remembered everything.
I was momentarily confused. "What do you mean by remember?"
"Still playing dumb?" Camryn teased, pinching my nose.
She skillfully entered the gate code, not letting him go near the cabinet, fully aware of the contents of the letter.
My performance had so many holes, but Camryn was enjoying himself thoroughly.
"You did that on purpose!" I exclaimed, wide-eyed.
He pretended to be angry, saying in the car that he was going to leave me, just to make me panic and expose myself.
Camryn didn't respond but simply said, "If I didn't do this, when would I ever get through your front door and take back my gifts and letters, darling?"
His "darling" made my face turn red, and I hit him with my fists and feet. "You're too bad, Camryn!"
He smiled as he pressed me down, his expression serious. "Getting angry at Blaise is real, but if he dares spread rumors about you, he'll pay the price."
"But letting you go is fake." He nuzzled my nose. "I told you, I won't give you another chance."
As I was pressed against Camryn, I could feel his gentle gaze soften my heart.
"Camryn."
"Hmm?"
"What about Corinne?"
At the mention of her name, Camryn chuckled, helpless. "You already know, don't you?"
That day in the lounge, Camryn's good brother had asked him if he would still wait. The person he was waiting for wasn't Corinne, but me.
"You're still too young. I'm afraid you can't accept marrying me because of the family alliance, or worse, that you were forced into it."
"So, I ran away from the wedding, thinking that I'd confirmed your suspicions, right?"
"Yes," Camryn kissed the corner of my mouth, as if unwilling to revisit the past. "When I heard you wanted to be with Blaise, I was furious. I even thought about locking you at home. You wouldn't have wanted that, but I'd have made you stay."
But later, my brother intervened. He used both soft and hard tactics to make Camryn give in.
He said, "Don't you want Ashley to be happy for the rest of her life?"
At that point, Camryn had no other option.
After hearing that, my feelings were mixed. I didn't know whether I should feel touched by my brother's actions or resentful.
But ultimately, it was because I didn't speak up, letting my own imagination run wild, and everyone had to clean up my mess.
I felt guilty, but I stubbornly retorted, "Then what about Corinne?"
Every time Camryn mentioned Corinne, he seemed annoyed.
She was indeed adopted by the Camryn family and really liked Camryn. What's worse, she'd done many reckless things to be with him, which had caused trouble for his family. So, they sent her abroad under the guise of treatment, hoping she'd stop making foolish mistakes.
Unexpectedly, she must have heard about Camryn's engagement and cried to come back.
Camryn's brother intended to remind him not to let Corinne's situation cause problems between us.
But I overheard part of the conversation and unfairly blamed Camryn.
I bit my lip and lowered my head further.
Camryn caught my chin and pulled my face up, his expression half-smiling, "So now you know you were wrong?"
"I already knew!" I pouted and bit his lip, acting cute and clingy. "I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, is that enough?"
"Good that you know," Camryn pressed my head back, our lips and tongues entangling. "If you do this again, I'll really break your legs and lock you at home. Not a single step outside."
I pretended to be terrified. "You're a freak, Camryn."
"What did you call me?"
I leaned forward, my smile radiant.
"Honey."
"Honey!"
