I met with Carleigh Tyler at a café.
Though I couldn't remember her, she was clearly my good friend.
Looking at her delicate and beautiful face, I didn't feel stunned at all. Instead, I felt an instinctive urge to smile.
"Really, reality is more absurd than fiction," she said, sipping hard liquor in broad daylight. "You really don't remember me?"
I shook my head honestly, smiling at her. "But you must be a good person, my friend. I have plenty of photos of us in my album."
Of course, there were also pictures of her drunken and bare-faced, but I didn't say that.
Carleigh hummed in satisfaction. "Now that's better."
I asked, "Why are you so surprised that I'm living with Camryn?"
In Carleigh's account, Camryn and I weren't a deeply affectionate married couple at all. Instead, we were sworn enemies, always at each other's throats.
Camryn would always mock me with cold sarcasm, and I loathed him to the core, hating him so much that I felt like I could leap up and bite him to death.
"Then why did we get married?" I asked.
Carleigh was stunned. "Who told you that you two are married?"
As she continued, my eyes widened with each word.
"You and him had an engagement, but for some reason, you suddenly turned on him. You disappeared from your engagement banquet, embarrassing both families. Your brother was furious."
"After that, Camryn didn't want anything to do with you, but every time you saw him, you got so mad you tried to provoke him. You even..."
I asked, "Even what?"
"You even went to the Blaise family, the Wilder family, and were seen with him," Carleigh frowned as she mentioned Blaise. "Although you said you didn't like Blaise, you sure went after him pretty hard. And sis, even Jazlyn dared to treat you like dirt."
She was frustrated. "Last time, your mom's dress wasn't Jazlyn who ruined it, right? Did you have someone get back at her? Damn, just thinking about it makes me mad. She's such a typical fake sweet girl. Every time I see her, I just wanna smack her."
Seeing her stand up for me, my heart warmed.
But based on her description, I really did sound like an idiot.
I called off the engagement at the last minute, offended Camryn, upset my brother, shamelessly chased after someone else, and got humiliated in the process.
Carleigh noticed my embarrassment and patted my shoulder sympathetically. "Baby, sometimes things happen for a reason. You've been picking the wrong guys all along. This is your chance to start fresh with a clearer head."
"Kick Blaise to the curb and let him disappear."
"As for Camryn, move out of his house immediately. If you piss him off again, not even God can save you."
I suddenly asked, "What was my relationship with Camryn like before I called off the wedding?"
Carleigh paused, thinking for a moment. "I guess... it wasn't that bad? At least you two weren't always at each other's throats."
I sat in silence, trying to figure out the reason for my sudden change of heart, but my mind was completely blank. I couldn't remember.
Seeing me stay quiet, Carleigh's eyes grew wide. "Ashley, you don't want to get back together with him, do you?"
She looked at me like I was out of my mind. "I don't know why, but you must have done something to hurt him badly. You can't be that stupid."
"You have amnesia now, and you're getting along with him."
"I'm just worried that when you remember everything, you'll regret it and won't be able to get away."
Carleigh's voice turned serious. "He's not a good man, Ashley."
