After three to four hours of taking statements and answering questions at the police station, we returned home, exhausted.
Percy, being so young, was still shaken by the events.
I asked Percival to go and comfort him, to help him sleep.
"Percy, is he asleep yet?"
I asked casually as I finished my shower and stepped out.
Hearing no response, I looked around, puzzled, as I dried my hair.
To my surprise, Percival Ashford was standing frozen at the edge of the bed.
The lights were off, half his face shadowed.
"Darling, what's wrong?"
I walked over and hugged him. Wasn't Percy the only one scared?
His body was ice cold to the touch, and I frowned.
I stood up, turned on the light, and raised the air conditioning's temperature.
I pulled Percival onto the bed, my voice cold:
"Did you take a cold shower earlier?"
Percival Ashford looked at me like a child who had done something wrong,
He stammered out, "Kierra, I swear I'm not violent…"
I couldn't help but smile, leaning forward to kiss his cheek.
"You fool, do you know what I'm asking?"
Percival's eyes reddened. "Don't be afraid of me."
"Afraid of you? I know you too well."
As I changed from my bathrobe to my pajamas, I said:
"Besides, my husband is only doing this to protect his wife and child."
Percival Ashford unconsciously tightened his grip around my arm:
"Don't leave me, Kierra~"
Sigh, when will he ever stop this bad habit of holding on so tightly when he gets nervous?
I kneeled on the bed, carefully cradling Percival's head and gazing into his eyes.
His amber eyes reflected me, filled with humble and pleading affection.
I took a deep breath, remembering how scared I had made him when I ran away that time.
"Listen, Percival, I'll never leave you, not in this lifetime."
I really love the way his eyes slowly started to light up.
"Whether you're perfect or not, you're still the person I love most!"
Upon hearing this, Percival's eyes lit up like a puppy seeing a bone.
His head rubbed against my chest repeatedly.
"Kierra, I love you too, so, so much."
I smiled and pulled the blanket over us, "It's time to sleep."
The next morning, my husband took our son out for a morning jog.
I was in the kitchen making small cakes and egg tarts when I heard hurried footsteps.
I peeked out, and there was Percy Ashford carrying a dirty little puppy upstairs.
"What happened? Where did this dog come from?"
"He found it during our run," Percival Ashford said, wiping the sweat off his neck with the towel.
I was puzzled. Wasn't it that he didn't want a dog?
