I slept in a haze for a while,
Waking up feeling refreshed. It had been a long time since I had such a peaceful sleep.
"Kierra, you're awake? How are you feeling? Is your body better?"
I heard Percival Ashford's voice as he entered, touching my forehead,
"I made some oatmeal with raisins, get up and have some."
He accompanied me while I freshened up, then held my hand and led me to the dining room.
I smelled the aroma of dumplings on the table and nearly burst into tears.
Yesterday, I hadn't left; I had stayed home instead.
Though Percival was afraid I might be angry at him for hiding things from me,
This time, he didn't lose his mind because of my death.
I told myself: Kierra, everything is fine. Believe in yourself.
His warm fingers gently wiped away my tears,
It was Percival caressing my face,
His voice filled with concern:
"Kierra, why are you crying? Is the breakfast not to your liking?"
I smiled through my tears, "It's fine. Darling, go call Percy down for breakfast."
"The little brat and I already ate. This is all freshly made for you, eat up."
Percival placed a dumpling on the small plate in front of me.
After breakfast, I took a plate of fruit and knocked on my son's door:
"Percy, can I come in?"
Percy Ashford had a strong sense of territoriality.
When he was just over a year old,
He quietly moved into the room next to mine and Percival Ashford's, without saying a word.
At the time, I thought it was Percival forcing the little one for the sake of our alone time,
I made Percival Ashford defend himself from that accusation.
Now that he's seven, he still likes to lock himself in his room.
After a brief three seconds, I heard a soft click.
My son had unlocked the door, silently allowing me to enter.
As I stepped inside,
My son was sitting on the carpet, concentrating on putting together a jigsaw puzzle.
"Hey Percy, what do you think about hitting up the pet store and grabbing a puppy to hang out with you?"
I had read online that a clingy pet could make children much livelier.
Percy's small face showed signs of contemplation,
I crouched down to meet his gaze,
Hoping for my son to nod in agreement.
Percy Ashford stared at me with a blank expression,
"Why do we need a pet?"
I was taken aback.
After a moment of silence, I finally heard his answer.
"To not be bored."
