The two little ones were eating contentedly, lying in their respective beds, dozing off. I curled up against Evander, poking his side with my finger.
"Evander, when did you collect the evidence?"
"…"
Evander refused to answer, sulking in anger.
He resented the fact that I had intentionally gotten closer to Leopold Kensington, despite knowing his sinister intentions.
That day, I had only deliberately sent Evander away when I saw Leopold's car nearby.
"Don't be mad. If I had told you earlier, you definitely wouldn't have agreed."
"Did you even think about me at that time?" My husband, when angry, was so hard to appease. I put on a pleading smile, wrapping my arms around Evander's neck and showering him with affection.
"Of course, I thought about you."
"How did you think about me?"
"I was thinking about what delicious food my husband would make me for dinner tonight." Evander was livid.
He tightened his grip on my waist, resting his head on my shoulder. The chill spread from his touch, slowly soaking through my shirt. The pressure of his arm gradually deepened, and I felt like I was suffocating in his embrace.
"It hurts…"
"Do you know how scared I was?" Evander's voice trembled, his body shuddering slightly.
"If I could never see you again, what would I do? Larissa, why do you always leave me behind?" I would never leave him behind.
If Leopold hadn't let me go, the recording would have immediately hit every major news platform. Then, the entire Kensington family would be dragged down with him.
"It's okay. Didn't I come back? I brought weapons with me." I comforted Evander, gently rubbing his fluffy hair. The crying sound from his chest became hoarser.
"If he hides you again, what should I do? What if I can't find you?"
"Fool."
"Evander, if you keep crying, I'll kiss you." Evander pulled his head away from my shoulder. His eyes were red, like a soft little rabbit.
It made me want to tease him.
"Li...ar."
I wasn't a liar.
I licked my lips, leaning in closer. It was sweet, soft.
