In just one day, the house had completely changed.
I placed my favorite plush toys on the bedside and sofa.
Evander kept saying it was childish, but I caught him secretly playing with the toys until they were misshapen.
The gray bedding was replaced with sweet pink ones.
The slippers were replaced with cute bunny designs.
I also picked out new pajamas for Evander—couple ones, the same as mine.
In the living room, I placed a bouquet of fresh-cut flowers.
A bunch of blooming roses.
Orange-red, just as beautiful as the warm sun in winter.
On the marble countertop in the bathroom, there was a pair of porcelain dolls, their faces pressed together.
One was a boy, the other a girl.
Evander insisted the girl looked like me, with a round, cute face.
I insisted the boy looked like him, clumsy and very kissable.
We both refused to admit the other's point of view, neither of us willing to give in.
In the end, we agreed to place the dolls next to the mirror.
Every day, we would examine ourselves in the mirror.
Until we admitted we looked like the porcelain dolls.
After showering, we cuddled up on the sofa and watched a movie together.
Evander Whitmore wrapped a fluffy blanket around us, pulling me close to him.
The movie was heartwarming.
It told the story of a young couple, from mutual crushes to a happy ending. At the end, they were living blissfully together with a little dog. The scene was so warm and touching, yet I suddenly felt a tightness in my chest. What if one day I left? What would happen to Evander? He was so obsessive; he would probably fall into the same pattern as in the past. No, I absolutely couldn't let him do something foolish again.
I sniffled and seriously cupped Evander's face in my hands.
"Evander, how about we get a cat? Or a dog?" A hint of suspicion flashed across his brow, and Evander grabbed my wrist, squeezing it tightly in his palm.
"Why? Aren't you the one who dislikes small animals?"
