From that day on, Evander moved into the apartment to stay with my soul. Others mocked him for being a fool. I thought the same.
Evander liked to talk to himself.
Sometimes he would share happy things with the air, other times he would pour out his sorrow.
I silently listened.
I watched as his usually cold face grew wet with tears. Day by day, Evander grew thinner. I knew he was sick, and there were always large boxes of medicine on the dining table.
I urged him to keep living.
But it was useless.
He couldn't hear me.
We spent three full years together.
Yet we were like two lonely souls, separated by an unbridgeable barrier.
I couldn't touch him, hear him, or feel him.
As I stayed longer in this world, my soul began to fade and grow more transparent.
I knew that it wouldn't be long before I completely disappeared from this world.
Evander still went out every day, returning late each night.
I couldn't leave the apartment, so I didn't know what he was doing.
Until the third anniversary of my death, Evander deliberately turned on the TV and tuned into the news channel.
Before leaving the house, he glanced deeply in my direction.
My forehead began to throb, and I had the feeling that something was about to happen.
Soon, the TV station broadcast an urgent news report:
Leopold, the head of the Kensington family, had died in a car accident. The incident was suspected to involve personal grudges, and the perpetrator had fled the scene.
The police were intensively pursuing the suspect.
It was Evander.
He was such a fool!
I panicked. My soul surged with enormous energy, breaking through the apartment's barriers. Following some invisible pull, I drifted to my grave. Evander was crying as he hugged my gravestone.
"Larissa, I've finally avenged you."
There were several empty pill bottles and beer cans at his feet.
I anxiously paced around, unable to do anything.
The massive cemetery was empty.
No one noticed Evander's abnormal behavior.
"Evander, I command you, do not die! Do you hear me?" I screamed desperately. The outburst briefly woke his consciousness. Evander looked at me deeply, his lips curling into a satisfied smile.
"You've come to take me, haven't you?"
With those words, he took a knife and, in one swift motion, slashed his bloodied wrist.
"Larissa, if there's an afterlife, I will definitely hold your hand bravely."
