After soothing both sides of the staff, the two companies began to push forward with various collaborations. That day, Magnus Everstone swaggered into my office.
Several old-timers were furious, cursing loudly. "Do you think this is your home?" Magnus casually sat down on the sofa, adopting the air of a rightful heir.
Without saying a word, he made everyone seethe with frustration.
I smiled. "Alright, you all can leave. I need to speak with Mr. Everstone."
Once they left, the room fell silent.
I put my pen down and asked, "What's going on?"
Magnus set a cake on my desk. "I got you a birthday cake."
I was taken aback for a moment, feeling a little lost.
For over twenty years, I'd never celebrated my birthday.
Yet today, Magnus had remembered it.
I carefully studied the design on the cake.
The misshapen image of a classic birthday design was definitely his doing.
Such an outdated style—this kind of decoration wasn't used much anymore.
I opened the box and pointed at the longevity peach. "How did you come up with this design?"
Magnus's face shifted awkwardly. "When I was little… I saw people get cakes like this. What, you don't like it?"
"This style's pretty rare these days."
Magnus coughed lightly. "It's fine. If you don't like it, forget it."
After a moment, he seemed a little put off, adding, "But I really think this design is the best."
Magnus had never celebrated a birthday either. As a child, the cakes he couldn't afford, decorated with elaborate designs like flowers or figures, were his version of an unattainable dream. He naturally thought this was the best, because it symbolized something he had always wanted.
I silently lit the candles and said, "I didn't say I didn't like it. Just make sure to add something like 'Happy Birthday' next year." A warm smile spread across Magnus's lips.
"Okay."
Magnus didn't like sweets, so he sat opposite me, helping me cut the cake. He'd cut a piece, and I'd eat it.
In between bites, I also received the jewelry he had ordered for me. When he saw me eating, he handed me a piece of paper. "I'm leaving on a business trip tomorrow."
"So soon?"
"Yeah."
I paused, a thought coming to me. "Did you deliberately wait until today to celebrate my birthday?" Magnus avoided my gaze. "No, that's not it."
At that moment, I truly believed Magnus had never been in a relationship. He couldn't even lie convincingly. I leaned over the table. "Magnus."
"Mmm?"
His gaze fell on my face, focused and intense.
Without warning, I pressed a kiss on his lips. "Come back soon." Magnus Everstone's ears turned bright red, and without saying a word, he turned and left.
