Sebastian Everleigh forcefully pushed the woman away and quickly walked toward me. He mouthed, "What are you doing here?"
I ignored him, leaning slightly to look past him at the woman, whose big innocent eyes were pouting in a way that seemed to beg for sympathy.
I greeted her, "Hello."
The woman clearly froze for a moment before striding toward me, her tone sharp and dripping with sarcasm: "So, you're Sebastian Everleigh's wife from the arranged marriage?"
Sebastian frowned and shot a sharp look at Secretary Lee. Secretary Lee immediately seemed ready to speak but was cut off by my raised hand.
I smiled at the woman and asked, "Yes, I am. May I ask who you are?"
The woman's eyes widened suddenly, her voice growing louder. "Didn't Sebastian ever mention me?"
I maintained my smile, replying, "It seems he hasn't."
He never spoke of her, though I had heard some things recently, but they weren't complete. I only knew her name was Deanna.
The woman lifted her chin proudly, a smug look spreading across her face. "My name is Deanna Payne. I'm Sebastian Everleigh's childhood friend. Before I went abroad, we were even engaged."
Her words implied that I had stolen her place. I looked up at Sebastian Everleigh, and his expression was darker than usual.
I asked, "Do you two need to talk?"
Sebastian suddenly shook his head, took my hand, and led me away.
Deanna stood frozen for a few seconds before rushing up, shouting at him, "Sebastian! Aren't you coming to my welcome party tomorrow?"
Sebastian Everleigh walked faster, and I nearly twisted my ankle in my heels. He suddenly stopped, bent down, and picked me up in a bridal carry, quickly walking out of the building.
From a distance, I heard Secretary Lee and Deanna speaking: "Miss Lynn, Young Master needs to spend the anniversary with his wife. Please don't disturb them."
