Robert was arrested on suspicion of illegal investments and financial fraud on the third morning. My father was incredibly efficient.
A small misstep on Robert's part had made him lower his guard.
Human nature simply can't stand the test of time.
It was completely unexpected, yet at the same time, utterly predictable.
Unfortunately, I wasn't there to see him being arrested.
Thanks to my father's thorough investigation and timely report, he remained untouched.
I was eating breakfast made by Alistair when I received a message from my father's secretary.
Alistair had been leaving early these days.
I'd heard that there was a big event at the end of the month, and rehearsals were taking place.
I wanted to share the good news with him, but then I realized he was probably too busy to check his messages.
Never mind.
I would tell him in person.
I had always known where Alistair was rehearsing, but this was the first time in so many years I had come to this place.
The wind in the air was chilly.
I got out of the car and leaned against it.
The first snow of the season had just begun to fall.
I heard voices from nearby.
I turned toward the sound.
And there he was.
Alistair came into view..
I quickly grabbed the roses from the car and, in front of all the watching eyes, handed them to him.
"Wow, wow, wow."
The crowd immediately erupted into teasing.
Someone in the crowd laughed and said, "The little lady is brave, but you know, our teacher Alistair is colder than ice."
"Looks like you won't be able to warm him up."
I smiled without losing my composure, staring straight at Alistair.
"Is that so, Alistair?"
Alistair looked at me, slightly stunned.
Most of the people in the crowd were his colleagues, so they were likely used to seeing girls give him flowers. When they saw he didn't react, they stepped in to break the awkwardness.
"Miss..."
Before he could finish his sentence, Alistair took the flowers from my hands and pulled me close.
"Wait, am I seeing things? Did Alistair just take that young lady's hand?"
"Hold on, isn't that the girl from Alistair's phone wallpaper?"
Phone wallpaper?
I caught a glimpse of something important.
Alistair put his arm around my shoulder and politely bid the crowd goodbye.
"Everyone, I need to leave now, but I'll buy you all coffee tomorrow."
As he said this, he pulled me by the hand and ushered me into the car.
He seemed in a hurry, not saying a word. It felt like we were heading somewhere important.
