Not long after, my parents sent out invitations to our engagement party, inviting all their friends in the circle.
A childhood friend of mine called me up to congratulate me. "Seraphina, congratulations on finally tying the knot with Alexander."
I smiled faintly. "It's not Alexander, it's someone my father arranged for me as a child betrothal."
Before long, the news of my engagement reached Alexander. He scoffed. "This is just one of her tricks, trying to play hard to get. Who else would she possibly be betrothed to, if not me?"
"We've already annulled our engagement. Everything was a lie. Now, I'm free to flirt."
Soon, I started hearing about his endless indulgence, changing girlfriends almost every day.
By the time those rumors reached my ears, I was already trying on wedding dresses.
I calmly blocked all of Alexander's contacts.
I turned to my best friend and said, "Don't tell me anything about him from now on."
My friend complained, "What's up with your fiancé? He doesn't even come to accompany you to try on wedding dresses?"
I smiled, "His job is special."
Because of his job, Houston couldn't accompany me, but he felt guilty about it.
I honestly didn't mind. After all, this was my decision.
As I left the bridal store, a familiar figure stopped me—it was Alexander. "How long are you going to keep this up? Why didn't you tell me you were trying on wedding dresses?"
I stood there, confused, with my best friend. "Alexander, what's your problem? What does my trying on wedding dresses have to do with you?"
He seemed to not understand at all. "Seraphina, stop with these childish games. I don't want to get married this soon."
My best friend, unable to hold back, threw the invitation card at his face. "Idiot, you should check who the groom is first."
Alexander looked completely incredulous. "Who is Houston?"
