My mom finally reacted, "So, you two have known each other for a while!"
I shook my head, neither agreeing nor disagreeing, feeling as uncomfortable as if I had swallowed a fly.
Aunt Mary pulled my mom aside, making up some excuse to go shopping, leaving Josh to "take care of me."
The room suddenly fell silent. Neither Josh nor I looked at each other.
"Why would you come to a blind date?"
Hey, has he forgotten how to speak since we broke up?
I looked at him coldly and asked, "Didn't you come for a blind date?"
Josh was caught off guard, explaining, "I didn't know it was a blind date before I came."
I snorted.
That line might work on some naive young girl, but not on me.
Just as I was about to mock him, a strong wave of nausea hit my stomach.
I rushed to the corner trash can and started vomiting uncontrollably.
Josh hurried over to my side, gently helping me to breathe, and asked softly, "What's wrong? Didn't eat properly? How many times have I told you not to drink cold stuff? Your stomach must be upset."
I'm experiencing morning sickness!
It's all your baby's fault!
I shoved him away, "Stop pretending to care, Josh! Don't think everything between us can be erased with time. You lied to me before, and I'm never getting back with you, and I'm definitely not marrying you!"
Josh touched his nose, "I haven't said anything yet. Eleanor, even if someone is sentenced to death, there needs to be a reason, right?"
I thought for a moment and deliberately said with a cold face, "What reason don't you understand? You... you're just not enough!"
After quickly saying that, I fled.
Once outside, I realized my cheeks were burning. I shook my head, trying to push Josh out of my mind.
I wandered outside all day, finally coming back home when I figured my parents must be resting.
I didn't expect them to still be sitting in the living room, clearly waiting for me.
I awkwardly smiled at them, "I…"
Before I could finish, my mom interrupted me.
She had this look of "you don't need to explain, we understand":
"Look, I told you that you'd like Josh as soon as you met him. Now that you two are getting along so well, I'm relieved."
I asked, "?"
They wouldn't think I was out on a date with Josh, would they?
I took a deep breath and asked, "What did he say?"
Mom smiled and said, "Josh said you two like each other and are just about to settle down!"
"He's lying!"
He really knows how to flatter himself.
"Who's in love with him? Mom, I don't want to marry him!"
My mom rolled her eyes at me, "Aren't you still thinking about your ex? He's poor and lacks ambition. How is he going to give you a good life in the future?"
I: "…"
I wonder if my mom would be shocked enough to drop her jaw if she knew that Josh was the same person as the ex she just described.
I helplessly explained, "Mom, please don't mention him. We're long over."
My mom replied with an "Oh," and then laughed, "I know, you must be embarrassed, right? Don't worry, your dad and I aren't outsiders..."
I gave up on trying to explain!
After a long day, I was too tired to say much.
Not able to explain myself right then, I waved my hand and went to my bedroom.
The next morning, I woke up to the sound of a noisy house downstairs.
Did my mom throw a party at home?
