At lunch, Kaeden decided to stay and eat with us, which made my parents overjoyed. My mom even rushed into the kitchen to cook herself, but the butler politely asked her to step aside.
"Madam, we've brought our own chefs. They've prepared all the dishes according to Miss Genesis's usual tastes. Please, you should rest outside," he said.
Fortunately, the kitchen was spacious enough; otherwise, those twelve chefs might not have fit inside.
During lunch, Kaeden kept piling my plate with food, even removing fish bones for me with meticulous care.
My dad, eager to please, said, "Kaeden, you're really good to our Genesis."
Heh, I looked up at my dad. It was the first time he'd called me Genesis.
Kaeden looked quite smug as he said, "Genesis has been spoiled since she was a child. If I'm not good to her, even my mom won't acknowledge me as her son."
Though he said it in a joking tone, everyone could tell how much the Ritter family valued me.
My mom subtly inquired, "Kaeden, how come Keshawn didn't come along?"
Kaeden was serving me soup and casually replied, "Why would he come?"
My mom quickly explained, "He should come to see Evelin. Evelin has been waiting for him at home every day."
Kaeden didn't even look up. "Oh, really?"
Then he didn't say anything more.
Evelin had puffy eyes. After being humiliated earlier by her bracelet incident, she went upstairs to cry, and now, after this, her eyes were red again. But she didn't dare cry in front of Kaeden, so she quietly mumbled, "I'm full," before going upstairs.
The girls who were eating in silence next to us couldn't help but cover their mouths and giggle.
Though they usually flattered Evelin, she had always been arrogant and domineering, treating them condescendingly. Seeing her suffer today made them feel somewhat relieved.
I couldn't help but smile to myself. Soon, Evelin would become the laughingstock of our classmates!
After dinner, my dad personally brewed a cup of his prized coffee for Kaeden. He took a sip, then furrowed his brows slightly. "This coffee's from last year. It's been stored well, but there's still a bit of an off taste."
My dad turned bright red in embarrassment.
My mom then cut up a fruit platter, but Kaeden fed me all the fruit with a fork.
Before leaving, he ruffled my hair and said, a little reluctantly, "Remember to call me when you have time."
I smiled and waved, "Alright, go on!"
After sending Kaeden off, I was about to head upstairs when my mom affectionately took my hand. "Genesis, you should tell us more about your relationship with the Ritter family."
I casually brushed it off, "We've known each other for a long time, and they've always treated me well."
My dad got excited, "Why didn't you tell us earlier?"
I scoffed, "Did you even ask?"
My parents looked a little embarrassed. They hadn't asked.
My mom gave me a reproachful look. "Well, you should have told us!"
I sneered, "If I had told you, would you have listened?"
They both nodded, smiling warmly. "Of course! Although we didn't raise you, you're still a part of us. We think of you all the time, and seeing you so successful now, we're incredibly proud."
"I guess this is what they mean by a complete 180.
I gave a faint smile, "Then why didn't you believe me when I said I wasn't pregnant?"
My dad's face shifted uncomfortably. "Those things are in the past."
I couldn't be bothered to argue, so I headed upstairs for a nap!
