Once I arrived, I pressed the button for the fifth floor without hesitation.
I had just returned from a business trip a few days ago, and he didn't know yet.
The blinds were open, and I saw his familiar figure.
Alongside him stood a woman, slender, her hair cascading in waves.
Alexander Montgomery pinched the bridge of his nose in exhaustion, and the woman leaned in intimately to whisper something to him.
I quietly observed for two seconds before calmly opening the office door.
Alexander Montgomery furrowed his brow as he stood up, clearly surprised upon seeing me.
The woman stood up, picked up the medical records from the desk, and smiled at me.
"Thank you for your help. There are still some things I don't quite understand, I'll make another appointment next time."
"Alexander, your medical skills are outstanding, very impressive."
Is that so? I had no idea.
I was clueless about everything.
I quietly watched her walk past me, the door shutting behind her.
Throughout it all, Alexander Montgomery didn't respond to her invitation.
For me, silence is as good as consent.
"You're here?"
Alexander Montgomery closed the pen in his hand, his eyes bright as he walked toward me.
"Give me the bag..."
I frowned and took a step back.
The air hung still for two seconds.
Alexander Montgomery paused, then smiled.
The next second, two voices sounded at once.
"When did you get back—"
"Let's get a divorce."
Alexander Montgomery stared at me for a long while, his eyes half-lidded, a slight smile playing at the corners of his lips.
It was cold.
Several calls came in, and he irritably hung up one after another.
"Why?"
I remained silent.
"Isabella, marriage is not a game. I asked you before, and you said you wanted to be my wife."
"For me, once you agree, it's for life."
"If you're upset about earlier, I'll apologize..."
I cut him off, "No need."
"Let's just get a divorce."
He paused for two seconds, then self-deprecatingly smiled. "Isabella, you really haven't changed."
"Still as heartless as ever."
His words were baffling, yet I couldn't help but disagree.
Aside from being a bit ruthless when I dumped my ex, wasn't I usually kind?
I spoke up, "I'll take the medicine to grandmother first."
Then, as I walked to the door, I added, "If you have time, feel free to contact me."
"We'll go get the divorce papers."
Alexander Montgomery didn't stop me, and I walked out on my own.
This was it, the marriage was already essentially over.
