On the day of our wedding, Jack didn't come.
He supposedly had some overseas endorsement work and couldn't make it, only sending a gift.
I stared blankly at the gift his assistant had brought.
"Zoe, are you not happy?" Sitting next to me, John asked, "Why are you in a daze?"
"No."
John slowly leaned towards me, his voice cold.
But when he spoke to me, he always elongated the final syllables of each word, making him sound less indifferent: "If you're not used to it, we can sleep separately for now. I'll bring another blanket."
"What?" I tried to understand the underlying meaning of his words. "You mean, we have to sleep in the same bed?"
John nodded. "Yes."
"We're in a business marriage, isn't this unnecessary?" I frowned, resisting slightly. "Was there anything like this in the contract we signed?"
He adjusted his gold-rimmed glasses and spoke with a businesslike tone: "No, but there's one clause stating that the spouse must unconditionally cooperate in creating the image of a loving marriage."
"Create? Do you need me to explain? Fake. Got it?"
John analyzed seriously: "Zoe, we haven't interacted much before. I'm busy during the day, only at night do I have time. If we can't use this time to get closer, others might start to doubt us."
I looked at John, lost in thought.
In terms of our careers, we are in a symbiotic relationship.
Both the Lee family and the Smith family are business giants. After the marriage, our combined influence will be so strong that it could attract fire from other big corporations. If there's a gap between us…
That wouldn't be good for either of us.
And right now, John is still establishing his position as the CEO of Smith Enterprises.
While I was still uncertain, John cleared all the gifts from the bed and placed them on the nearby cabinet.
He quickly arranged two sets of bedding, squeezed himself onto the left side, patted the empty right side, and looked at me with a playful gaze: "Zoe, come over. I won't touch you."
I: "…"
Is there an oddly suggestive air about this?
