Chapter 19

　　It was a sunny afternoon when a woman in high heels walked up to me while I was busy checking project data at the office.
　　She smiled and greeted me. "Lavinia, long time no see."
　　I didn't recognize her and awkwardly replied, "Hello."
　　She didn't mind and walked away.
　　My colleague, who was standing nearby, poked me and spoke with a bit of envy:
　　"She's been at the overseas headquarters for four years, and now she's back as the technical director. The headquarters is grooming her for a position managing the region. She's so impressive!"
　　She glanced at me again, then sighed.
　　"It's a shame, you were the one recommended to go to the headquarters for training back then, but you gave it up, and that's how she got it."
　　At first, I didn't pay much attention, but I followed her words and asked:
　　"When was that? I didn't know about it."
　　"It was the year you first joined. The headquarters was looking for new recruits, such a rare opportunity, but you said your husband couldn't be without you, so you chose to give it up."
　　She clicked her tongue twice.
　　"You gave up a promotion for a man, Lavinia. Do you regret it now?"
　　Regret.
　　The word seemed to trigger something inside me, and suddenly my head hurt intensely, as though needles were pricking me, with sharp pains shooting through my temples.
　　My body swayed, and I fainted, my head hitting the corner of the desk.
