The meeting ended at 3 p.m. Eleanor thanked me, looking at my eyes, hesitant to speak.
Alexander, at the perfect moment, called Lucas away.
Only then did Eleanor speak to me.
"I thought about it, and I still feel like I shouldn't hide this from you."
"You look so much like my sister, Seraphine, and my brother just so happens to like her... I don't mean anything else. I just think you should know."
"If you don't mind, that's fine, but if you do, please don't hurt my brother."
She begged, "He's already so upset."
I was a little stunned.
I remember the last time in the elevator, she had cursed Lucas, wishing for him to die.
Now, she was begging me not to hurt Lucas.
She had transferred her anger over Seraphine's death to Lucas, yet couldn't help but want to take care of him.
The ambiguous relationship between Lucas and Eleanor turned into familial love, which was far more practical than an abstract, fleeting love.
No matter how many conflicts, no matter how much pain, the years they relied on each other would always be deeply etched in their hearts, accompanying them to their graves.
I looked at Eleanor's red eyes and held her hand.
"It's okay, I don't mind."
I reassured her, "I'll be good to him."
"Thank you."
She said softly.
