In modern society, when two unrelated adults lose their emotional connection, they disappear into the vast sea of humanity, not even exchanging greetings if they meet.
For eight months, I didn't see Quentin.
On a business trip to another city, I saw a yak slowly crossing the road. Without thinking, I took a picture, intending to send it to him. But when I opened our chat, I remembered we had broken up.
I stiffly put my phone back in my pocket.
When I returned, a friend dragged me to a nightclub. As I watched the models and celebrities she called over, I found myself, on impulse, calling someone up.
My friend slung an arm around my shoulders. "Aren't you afraid Quentin will get jealous?"
"We broke up."
She looked surprised but said nothing, dismissing the man I had called over with a wave.
"Even if you broke up, don't settle for that."
She picked up her phone. "Let me get you someone top-tier."
I was too tipsy to care.
She soon brought over a well-known celebrity. He sat beside me, pouring drinks with lowered eyes. I patted his shoulder.
"You men... You always want to have your cake and eat it too, don't you?"
He looked slightly taken aback. "That depends on the person."
"But I doubt anyone would dare mess with you."
He smiled. "You're the one in control."
I chuckled but didn't respond.
