My mind wandered as I recalled the plot.
From the stairs came a burst of girlish laughter. Beatrice was being carried down by her husband, a shy blush spreading across her cheeks.
"Stop it! I can walk on my own!" she said coyly, her face buried in his chest.
"Oh, nonsense. A man should carry the burden," he replied, grinning.
Even my mother doted on her, removing the family's heirloom emerald bracelet from her wrist and slipping it onto Beatrice's.
Beatrice hesitated. "Eleanor works so hard. Are you sure it's okay to give this to me?"
"Eleanor is just a bookworm. How could she compare to you, my dear?"
With a loving smile, my mother stroked Beatrice's hair and turned to me, adding, "Eleanor, no offense, but Beatrice is simply irresistible."
I returned her smile but said nothing.

Ever since I had that dream and awakened to the plot, everything felt utterly absurd.
I've been exceptional all my life. I graduated and joined the Ashford family, standing steadfast by my husband's side, building our lives together with perfectly matched status and love.
And now someone's telling me I'm supposed to be jealous of someone like Beatrice?
What a joke.
After dinner, I went upstairs to organize some documents, flipping through the Q4 reports while chatting with my husband, Alaric.
Out of nowhere, Alaric sighed.
"Honestly, girls like Beatrice are quite charming. Soft and sweet... you just want to cherish them."
My hand froze mid-action.
