Chapter 14

　　My ex-husband went directly to Cedric, asking him to fire me, offering to invest in Cedric's domestic projects in return.
　　Cedric declined.
　　When I brought in some documents, Cedric mentioned the matter, looking somewhat curious.
　　"Judging by your ex-husband's behavior, it seems he wants to win you back."
　　"But with his arrogant demeanor, he doesn't seem to respect you at all."
　　"Has he always been this..." Cedric searched for a kinder word, "this conceited?"
　　I gave a bitter smile and admitted, "He's just foolish, always listening to his mother, never able to think clearly.
　　"As for what he wants to do now..." I paused, shaking my head helplessly. "I really don't understand."
　　"He does want to remarry me, but I can't figure out why. His actions are such a tangled mess, it's impossible to analyze his motives."
　　"It's like he's a patient who just escaped from a psychiatric hospital."
　　Cedric couldn't help but laugh.
　　"He certainly seems that way."
　　His expression softened. "If he bothers you in the future, you can come to me. At least as a man, there are things I can handle more conveniently than you."
　　Facing Cedric's gaze, so gentle it was almost overwhelming, I stiffened slightly but ultimately didn't refuse.
