I belatedly touched my face.
I know I'm attractive, but my gratitude toward Cedric earlier was entirely sincere, devoid of any ulterior motives.
Yet his reaction...
Lowering my gaze, I let my mind go blank, unsure of what to think.
Unlocking my phone, I stared at the empty chat screen. Only then did I realize...
Before boarding the plane, I had already blocked them all.
Blocking them was for the best.
Blocking meant I wouldn't receive new messages, and I wouldn't keep replaying things in my mind, adding to my mental exhaustion.
I took a sip of warm water.

I had been foolish. This trope of a runaway bride with a child wouldn't end just because the bride escaped.
A call from the front desk sent me rushing downstairs, only to see my ex-husband holding Alaric. One big, one small, both dusty, with a suitcase trailing behind them.
Alaric's small head peeked out. "Mommy, Daddy and I came to see you!"
He nudged his father's shoulder. My ex-husband pressed his lips together and, with some reluctance, said, "Alaric and I are here to take you home."
I crossed my arms, staring at my ex-husband for a long moment. My gaze landed on the suitcase at his feet, and I pressed my temples in frustration.
Was he an idiot?
Turning to the front desk, I smiled and said, "I don't know these two. They seem a bit unwell mentally. Please have security escort them out."
With that, I turned and headed upstairs without sparing them another glance.
Behind me, I heard Alaric's cries.
I paused, and so did the crying, only for it to resume louder.
A chill ran through me, but I didn't stop. I hurried into the elevator.
