Low blood sugar – an old issue. I had candy in my bag but assumed the dizziness was from exhaustion and didn't pay attention.
When I woke up, Cedric was sitting by my bed, frowning at the IV drip, occasionally fiddling with the regulator to adjust the flow.
As the dripping sped up, my heart skipped a beat, and I quickly called out, "Director."
Only then did he graciously spare me a glance, his voice icy.
"Everyone at the office thinks I knocked you out."
"What?"
I was stunned and couldn't react for a moment, staring at him in a daze.
Cedric pursed his lips, averted his gaze, and changed the topic to something less intense.
"Where's your son? Do you need me to help bring him here?"
I shook my head. "He's with his father right now."
Cedric raised an eyebrow. "You're still in contact with his father?"
"No."
I gave a bitter smile. "That child probably has nothing to do with me anymore."
He fell silent for a long while before saying, "You raised him all this time. If he's taken away like this, is he okay with it?"
"He ran to his father on his own," I replied quietly.
Cedric said nothing more.
