That day, I worked late into the night, eventually collapsing at my desk for a short nap. A colleague arriving in the morning woke me up and handed me a cup of milk.
She patted my shoulder. "Moderation is key. Too much overtime can kill you."
I thanked her, covered my dark circles with powder, and applied some lipstick. Only then did I look a bit better.
I worked tirelessly for three days to catch up on the backlog from my absence. Alternating between coffee and energy drinks, napping at my desk when I was too tired, and eating apples or boiled eggs when hungry.
On the fourth day, I finally shut down my computer, walking home in heels, feeling like I was floating.
Everything seemed hazy, swaying in and out of focus. Even Cedric's stern face appeared fragmented before me.
I tried to greet him.
"Director..."
Before I could finish the word 'good morning,' I stumbled right into Cedric's chest.
Once my legs gave out, regaining composure was impossible.
Clutching his shirt for balance, I struggled to stand but couldn't.
I even heard his irritated voice. "Evelyn! Get up, or I swear—"
I collapsed in his arms, unconscious.
