Chapter 21

　　I was worried my rejection might provoke more trouble from Alaric.
　　But despite his fallout with Eleanor and the plot collapsing entirely, certain events still unfolded as expected.
　　It was as if the gears of fate kept turning, inevitably reaching the same outcomes.
　　Alaric's mother ultimately didn't survive to have her surgery. She passed away in the hospital.
　　On the day of the exam, Alaric attended with reddened eyes, finishing the entire test in a daze.
　　But he seemed mentally distracted.
　　As I anticipated, when the results came out, Alaric had failed miserably. He didn't get into the top university and ended up nothing.
　　Meanwhile, thanks to my recommendation slot, I happily went to the top university.
　　Before leaving for studying, I suddenly remembered something and immediately called my mom.
　　"Mom, don't you have the doctor's contact? Send him a message and tell him to avoid going to the hospital for a while."
　　My mom's voice came through the phone, sounding slightly chaotic in the background. "Why? I'm at the hospital right now. The doctor was just attacked."
　　My heart sank. "What happened?"
　　My mom moved to a quieter place. "I'm not sure. It seemed to be some patient-doctor dispute. A young man chopped off the doctor's hands. The police have already taken him away. It's horrifying. As they were dragging him out, he kept screaming."
　　"Screaming what?"
　　"He was yelling, 'Didn't you say you'd help me raise money for my mom's surgery? Where's the money? Where's my money?' It might be related to the fundraiser the doctor posted about a while back. But because of some platform issue, the funds couldn't be withdrawn. Such a tragedy—trying to do a good deed but ending up in this mess. That young man's mother wouldn't have survived even with the surgery, and yet, in his rage, he ruined the doctor's life. Even if his hands heal, he'll never hold a scalpel again. The doctor has been a skilled surgeon for years, and now so many patients will suffer because of this."
