By the time we reconvened at five in the evening, everyone's baskets were brimming with mushrooms.
Seraphine, ever eager to impress, had even borrowed two extra baskets from the production team to hold their bounty.
The participants chatted excitedly about their haul until Laurence and I appeared, seemingly empty-handed.
"Where's your basket?" someone asked, puzzled.
Seraphine's brow relaxed slightly as she teased,
"Don't tell me you didn't find anything and threw the basket away in frustration?"
Laurence rolled his eyes and turned to the director. "Follow me."
He led everyone deeper into the forest.
Halfway there, Seraphine couldn't help but complain, "Why do we have to go deeper? There are mushrooms outside the forest too."
Laurence finally couldn't hold back and said without turning his head, "You don't have to go."
Seraphine: "..."
The group finally reached the place where Laurence had led me to pick mushrooms earlier.
The camera crew immediately followed.
The guests also saw the incredible scene before them.
There, in a neatly cleared area, was a basket.
Around the basket, within nearly half a meter of space, the ground was covered with mushrooms.
Not only were there so many, but these mushrooms were also plump, dewy, and looked delicious.
They were several times better than the mushrooms they had picked outside.
The production team called for the other guests to help carry the mushrooms back to the camp.
We didn't even need to weigh them and easily won first place.
Seraphine's team came in second.
As the director announced the results, I could already hear Seraphine's gritted teeth thoughts:
"Useless fool, they found the truth, and now they're better at picking mushrooms than her. I just want to strangle her."
I frowned and looked up, seeing her cold, vengeful gaze fixated on Beryl.
After the competition ended, the guests had an hour to rest.
I took the opportunity while Laurence went to the bathroom to grab my tablet and run to the tent where Seraphine's group was.
As I approached, I heard the sound of suppressed crying.
Seraphine's voice, full of suppressed rage, was clear:
"Stop crying! You can't even compare to Cecelia, that useless waste. If I'd known, I wouldn't have brought you back from the countryside. You should've stayed there forever, feeding pigs!"
