I thought this would be the last time Zach bothered me.
But to my surprise, he suddenly called me over the weekend.
On the phone, I asked him reluctantly, "What do you want?"
Zach barely restrained his temper. "Didn't you want to find my cousin? I'll take you to him."
Although I doubted his intentions, my desire to see Dr. Midnight outweighed my wariness of Zach. Hesitantly, I got in his car.
The car stopped in front of an estate.
As soon as I got out, I saw an array of luxury cars parked at the entrance. The scene was grand.
I hesitated. "Why are there so many cars?"
Straightening his shirt, Zach replied, "Today is my mom's birthday party."
My eyes widened. "Then why did you bring me here?!"
He said matter-of-factly, "My cousin's dad and my dad are brothers. Of course, he'll be here for my mom's birthday."
Seeing me frozen, he urged, "Well? Are you going in or not?"
Summoning my courage, I muttered, "...Fine, I'll go."
His family truly lived up to their reputation as aristocrats. Even a birthday party was extravagant.
Not long after entering, I spotted Dr. Midnight.
Unlike his usual white coat, today he was dressed in a tailored suit. Every movement exuded a mature charm that was irresistibly captivating to me.
He was surrounded by adults sipping red wine and chatting. It was a world I couldn't fit into.
It dawned on me why Zach had brought me here.
He wanted me to see how vast the gap was between me and Dr. Midnight.
