Upon hearing his words, Amily was already in tears.
"I remember, when I was little, my father was very kind to me. But after my mother remarried, my stepfather didn't like me and often beat and scolded me."
Cyrus looked at her with a complex expression.
"I've already secured your custody. You don't ever have to return to that house again."
They had confirmed their identities.
But just to be safe, I still suggested doing a paternity test.
"Of course." Cyrus stood up, extended his hand to me, and shook it politely. "Mrs. Ashwood, I also want to thank you for taking care of Amily all these years. If you have any requests, feel free to ask."
I shook my head. "It's nothing. We'll talk about this later."
Before we left, Cyrus hesitated, looking at me. "Mrs. Ashwood, these words shouldn't have come from me."
I raised an eyebrow. "What is it?"
"That man in the lobby is your son, right?" Although it was a question, his tone was firm. "There's been a group of scammers coming from overseas, and your son seems to be in contact with them."
"How do you know..."
"They've come to me before, but I refused them. For safety's sake, you should talk to your son."
Cyrus paused and then added, "After all, he doesn't seem too bright."
I couldn't help but want to laugh.
Even outsiders could see what kind of person I had raised all these years.
Cyrus's words left me unsettled.
Not long after returning, I began investigating the group my son, Kart, was involved with, and sure enough, I found some troubling things.
After thinking for a while, I arranged a meeting with Kart.
In the meeting room, Kart lifted his chin. "I told you, you'd regret this."
I expressionlessly tossed the information I had gathered in front of him. "Terminate your dealings with this group immediately."
Kart immediately jumped up. "Why?"
I lifted my chin. "Take a look at this first."
Kart's expression changed as he picked it up and after reading it, his brows furrowed tightly. "Impossible!"
He stood up and loudly retorted, "I've been in contact with them. They have authorization from foreign authorities. How could they be fraudsters?"
As he spoke, he looked at me suspiciously. "You didn't forge this, did you? I know it, you just can't stand me doing well!"
I finally slowly raised my head, gazing at his agitated expression. My lips parted and I uttered a word: "Fool."
Cyrus was right after all.
