Perhaps my gaze was too direct.
Kart glanced at me and sneered:
"You think I can't survive without you? You're so arrogant. I recently closed a big deal, and the client paid in full upfront. As long as this transaction goes through, my company will thrive, and it's only a matter of time before I surpass you."
I withdrew my gaze. "Then congratulations."
Before leaving, Kart put his arm around Velvet's shoulders and arrogantly said to me:
"I'm going to make you realize that this time, your decision was a complete mistake!"
Although I had long given up any hope for this rebellious son,
hearing him say this still made my heart ache.
After the crowd dispersed, Amily and I turned around and saw a man in his forties staring at us intently.
He was dressed in a suit, exuding the aura of someone in a position of power. When he saw us looking at him, he actually stepped forward and walked toward us.
"Mrs. Ashwood."
The man spoke, calling my name.
I looked at him in confusion. "May I ask who you are?"
He handed me a business card.
Cyrus Ravenhood, CEO of Ravenhood Pharmaceuticals.
I put the card away. "Do we know each other?"
He nodded and his gaze shifted to Amily beside me. "I'm the person you arranged to meet today."
...
In the meeting room, Cyrus began recounting the entire story.
Twenty-three years ago, he and his wife lived in the countryside and had a daughter.
Twenty years ago, in an effort to provide a better life for his wife and daughter, he went to sea with some villagers, only to encounter a tsunami.
The villagers all presumed him dead, and soon after, his wife remarried.
Eighteen years ago, his daughter went missing, a fact that Cyrus only learned a few months ago.
His wife, submissive and fearful of her current husband, never dared to search for their daughter.
As a result, Amily had been living under my care for eighteen years, with no one coming to search for her. It wasn't until recently when Cyrus made public his intention to find his daughter that my assistant investigated and arranged this meeting.
