Seeing him like this, I couldn't deny that I still felt a pang of pain.
But that was all it was—just a bit of pain.
"Clayton, I already have a boyfriend."
I tightly held Jaydin's hand, stepping from behind him to stand by his side.
The color drained from Clayton's face in an instant.
His gaze slowly lowered.
Finally, it stopped at our interlocked fingers.
On our ring fingers, we wore matching rings.
Just like how it was between him and me once.
"Sonia, are you serious?"
I took a deep breath, turned to look at Jaydin, and then nodded firmly: "Yes, I'm serious."
Clayton suddenly let out a low, bitter laugh.
"Do you think he's serious about you?"
"Do you think he can offer you any genuine affection?"
"Two years ago, he fought with me tooth and nail over a project."
"And now he's pursuing you. Sonia, don't you think there's any ulterior motive in that?"
"Would he dare to openly say that his pursuit of you has nothing to do with wanting to compete with me, Clayton?"
"Sonia, you're still so naive."
"All crows under the sky are just as black, and all men in this world are the same."
"You've been with me for seven years. After all that's happened between us, do you really think Jaydin won't mind any of it?"
"Do you really think he can give you a happy ending, a life together until old age?"
"Aren't you afraid that being with him will just lead to another seven years like what you had with me!"
At some point, the cheerful music had stopped.
Clayton's voice also fell silent.
There was a moment of stillness in my ears.
Then, I heard the faint sound of something breaking.
And after that sound, all I felt was a profound sense of lightness and relief.
You see, I didn't even feel that last bit of sadness anymore.
It's just a pity that life always has to leave us with some regrets.
Before today, I never regretted loving Clayton.
Whether good or bad, it was still my experience.
But in this moment, I can't help but feel deep regret.
Why did it take me seven years to realize that deep down, Clayton never truly respected me.
Jaydin pulled me into his arms, his eyes full of concern.
My face was pale, but I still smiled and shook my head at him: "I'm fine, Jaydin."
"Be good, go to the car first. Let me handle this."
"I want to stay with you." I clutched his hand, refusing to let go.
Jaydin stared at me for a moment before suddenly leaning down to kiss me firmly.
"Sonia, I, have always lived my life with a clear conscience, never having any regrets."
"But right now, I truly regret not having taken you away from him earlier."
"What right do you have to compete with me? Taking advantage of someone in a vulnerable state—what kind of man does that make you, Jaydin?"
"Clayton, you were never worthy of the seven years of love and affection Sonia gave you."
Maybe it was this statement that completely enraged Clayton.
He had never lost his composure like this before, speaking without thinking.
"And what about you, Jaydin? You're going after a woman who's been with me for seven years—what right do you have to stand here and make bold claims?"
"What exactly do you like about her? Do you genuinely like Sonia, or do you just like Clayton's woman, Sonia?"
