Ever since I made things clear with Edgar, I tried to avoid meeting him.
If there was a gathering where he would be present, I no longer attended.
Edgar, however, updated his social media daily.
They were all photos of him and his girlfriend on dates.
Sometimes he posted four or five updates a day, making it hard to ignore.
But I didn't have the time to pay attention. We had secured a client's order, and now we needed to complete it as soon as possible.
For a small studio, credibility was most important.
But Kelsie always reminded me: "Honey, Gentleman has posted on his WeChat Moments again."
Since Kelsie had seen Edgar's girlfriend's post, she had given him the nickname "Gentleman."
"Isn't this beach the one you wanted to go to according to your research?"
"And this trendy café too."
"Does Gentleman post these specifically for you to see?"
I took Kelsie's phone for a look, and it was true.
"It might just be a coincidence."
"Don't be silly. We all think that Gentleman is dating this time just to make you jealous. Otherwise, why would he post so much about his relationship?"
I didn't care about Edgar's motives for his post, and I wouldn't be foolish enough to continue harboring false hopes.
"Stop talking nonsense. I have a boyfriend."
Kelsie remained convinced. "Wait and see, I think he'll regret coming to you eventually."
I found it amusing and didn't take it seriously.
"I don't know if he'll regret it or not, but I do know that if we don't finish the client's order, we'll be the ones regretting it."
To complete this batch of orders, our studio worked through several late nights in a row.
Dashawn would come over every day after work to keep me company, eating dinner and late-night snacks with me.
He knew how important this client was to me, so he didn't disturb me but stayed quietly by my side.
I told him to go back and rest, but he wouldn't.
Sometimes, when he was tired, he would simply fall asleep on the sofa.
But for some reason, the better he was to me, the more anxious I became.
I was afraid of getting lost in this, ending up in a hopeless situation.
Like today, Kelsie couldn't take it anymore and went home to sleep, but Dashawn was still here with me.
Looking at his sleepy appearance, I couldn't help but say, "You don't have to do this."
Dashawn looked up at me.
"If you feel lonely and want company, you can… go find other girls. I… wouldn't mind."
"Our relationship isn't equal to begin with."
Everyone says I'm a good girl, but I know it's not really a compliment.
"I'm rigid, boring, and don't know how to win people over. There are plenty of girls who are better than me."
As I spoke, I felt a lump form in my throat.
These were the things Edgar had said about me in front of all our friends, and back then, I could still manage a sweet smile.
Now that I was saying them myself, I couldn't help but show my emotions.
Before I could finish, my lips were sealed by a kiss.
