"Siena, if you won't call him Dad, you must at least call him Brother. After all, the Cooley Family business will be his, and we'll have to rely on your brother for our livelihood!"
After learning that my mom had formed a new family, I didn't plan on staying long, but this wasn't the right time to say anything. Considering my mom's future, I nodded.
"The young master is back." As soon as there was movement at the door, my mom pulled me to the entrance.
Before I could call him 'Brother,' the person arriving was so surprised that he nearly jumped on the spot. "Siena, what are you doing here?"
I never would have guessed that my stepbrother was Kevin's good friend.
Back when I was with Kevin, he used to come over for meals every day.
"No way, no way? You're my stepsister?" Jaime Kirk's mouth was shaped like an 'O.'
"What's going on?" My mom and Konner looked at me and Jaime in shock.
We were all adults, and ordinary lies wouldn't work.
So, I said, "My ex was brothers with Jaime, which is why he calls me Sister-in-law. But that was before, now my ex is dead."
As soon as I finished speaking, a voice filled with gritted teeth suddenly sounded. "Siena, who are you cursing to die?"
I was startled and looked in the direction of the voice, only to discover that Kevin was there.
He had been standing just outside the light, so I hadn't noticed him.
Caught saying bad things about someone, how embarrassing! But if the person was Kevin, it was kind of satisfying!
"Whoever fits the description, that's who I'm cursing." I lifted my chin and glared at Kevin.
With Kevin's appearance, Konner and my mom took another deep breath. "So Siena's ex is Kevin..."
"Mm-hmm." I nodded.
"Those children..." My mom was so shocked she almost fainted.
I hurried to calm her down, telling her not to say anything and giving the triplets a look.
Grant is smart, so he understood and led his siblings upstairs.
Watching those three fast-moving little figures, Kevin's face darkened even more. "Am I that unwelcome?"
Of course, I didn't welcome Kevin, and I didn't want the kids to interact with him too much, but since the Cooley Family had a good relationship with the Lopez Family, I didn't want to offend him here.
At the dinner table, the atmosphere was awkward.
I finished my meal quickly and found an excuse to go upstairs.
When I reached the stairwell, I heard Kevin clearly. "Jaime, get the wine. I'm in a bad mood today, let's drown our sorrows."
Hearing this, my steps paused briefly before resuming as usual.
An auntie from the villa brought dinner for the triplets. After feeding them, I bathed them in order.
By the time I finished, it was three hours later.
I rubbed my sore back and took a shower.
As soon as I stepped out of the bathroom, I was enveloped in a domineering embrace.
It was Kevin. Drunk, he suddenly hugged me tightly, burying his head in my shoulder and whispering, "I like you so much, so very much..."
His low voice was choked with emotion, just like a few years ago.
Memories buried deep in my mind surfaced uncontrollably.
When I first met Kevin, he was drunk.
I had just joined the Lopez Corporation not long before. At a company dinner that night, the drunk Kevin suddenly rushed in and hugged me, saying, "I like you so much."
From then on, I became the envy of everyone.
After marrying Kevin, he made me quit my job and stay at home. I said I would quit if he stopped drinking.
He agreed.
