Her soft voice extinguished Kevin's anger.
Kevin got into the car and left.
Watching the car drive away, I stood there, somewhat dazed.
What was going on? Why was Ciara still calling Kevin's parents as "your parents"?
Didn't they get married right after I left for abroad?
Forget it, what did it matter whether they were married or not?
I shook my head, pushing Kevin out of my mind.
"Siena, let me go."Once Kevin was gone, Wyatt pulled away from my arm. "If my girlfriend saw this, she'd skin me alive."
"It's on me, it's on me."I quickly put some distance between Wyatt and me, then moved things to the trunk of his car.
In the car, the usually chatty triplets became somewhat quiet.
I looked over and saw them staring at me with big eyes, looking puzzled.
"What... what is it?" I felt a bit uneasy under their gaze.
It was Grant who asked, "Mommy, was that jerk at the airport our dad?"
Hearing this, my expression froze.
Damn! I had been so focused on arguing with Kevin that I forgot the triplets were standing right there.
"Of course not." I denied it firmly.
Cruz questioned, "But you just said you were married."
Perhaps because they had only ever known their mother, the triplets already had a clear concept of parents.
The children were Kevin's, a fact that couldn't be changed. But Kevin already had Ciara by his side, and though Ciara seemed soft-spoken, she was actually not easy to deal with.
If the children truly acknowledged Kevin, it wouldn't be good for them.
I didn't want anyone to hurt my children.
With a decision in mind, I said, "I did marry him, but your father is someone else."
"So who is our dad?"
They were just over four years old, and this was the first time they had asked me so directly about their father.
After a moment of contemplation, I replied, "After that jerk abandoned me, I was so disillusioned that I no longer believed in love. So I bought sperm abroad and had artificial insemination to have you three."
"In other words, you don't have a dad."
"Like that!" The triplets nodded, not fully understanding.
I sighed in relief.
Whew —
At least I managed to get through it.
Wyatt dropped me off at my destination and left.
Looking at the European-style villa in front of me, I felt a bit lost.
My father passed away early, and my mother and I depended on each other, life had always been tough.
Before I left for abroad, my mother used the one million dollars I gave her to rent a stall at the seafood market and continued her old trade: selling fish.
I didn't expect money to run out so quickly.
The three children were all spendthrifts, and 20 million dollars was gone just like that.
Just as I was beginning to worry about making ends meet, my mother said she had struck it rich and told me to bring the children back home.
For the sake of the children, I returned.
