It was dark when I received a call from York.
His tone was unfriendly as he asked where I was.
"Eating barbecue! Want to join?"
York grunted, "No."
I had to beg him, "Come on, come on! Your dear mother can't find her way home and needs my darling to come pick her up to get back."
"…Why are you doing this again!?" York shouted.
I laughed, no longer teasing him, "Come on, this place has amazing food. You'd be missing out if you don't eat here!"
I coaxed him nicely for a while, and finally, the kid relented.
Sigh, as a mother, I'm just too humble.
I gave him the address.
After hearing it, he was silent for a moment before saying, "I'll be there soon."
Sure enough, he arrived quickly, in about an hour.
I was speechless, "The food's cold. Why didn't you arrive later?"
York glared at me, "Didn't you know it takes nearly an hour to get here from home?"
Sigh, he's so young, yet his temper is so fiery!
"I was just talking nonsense, hurry up and eat!"
York played with the skewer and asked, "Why did you come here? Did you visit them?"
I shook my head.
He frowned, "Then why did you come?"
"Just revisiting old memories!"
"Boring!" he said.
He looked down, flipping a skewer of beaf in his hand for a while without taking a bite:
"You could have visited them."
I rolled my eyes, "Enough, eat up. You're just a kid, don't worry so much."
York was about to get angry again.
I hastily said, "They're doing well. They adopted a child, and the family is happy together. Why disturb them?"
York scoffed, "Then why don't you have the guts not to come?"
...
What a rebellious child.
"Hurry up and eat. We can go home once we're done. It's freezing."
York looked at my bare arms and furrowed his brows.
"Serves you right!" he said.
But he quickly took off his jacket and handed it to me.
I didn't refuse, it was really cold.
York finally took a bite.
He looked disgusted, "This is what you called 'amazing'? Do you have a problem with your taste buds?"
Me: "…Shut up, eat yours."
Due to the night's events, I caught a cold the next day.
I felt dizzy and weak, it was terrible.
York scolded me while making medicine for me, as if he were the parent.
"Do you want me to take a day off to take care of you?" he asked.
I nodded, "Yes, OK!"
York: "…Even a moment's hesitation would show respect for my studies."
Me: "I learned a term recently, it fits you perfectly, 'mouth says no, body says yes'!"
York: "…What nonsense do you read all day? Have you streamed? Do you know how many hours you owe?"
Hearing that, I quickly pulled the blanket over myself, "Oh, I'm so sleepy!"
This avoidance led to me actually falling asleep, and in a daze, I heard the sound of a door closing.
Sigh, my dear son left me. Indeed, I'm not as important as his studies!
I woke up later due to hunger, and as soon as I opened my eyes, I saw York engrossed in doing problems.
Hearing the noise, he put down his pen, "Wait, I'll get you some soup, and then you can take your medicine."
After eating the soup, I felt fully recovered.
"Goodness, I slept through until evening?"
"What evening?"
"Aren't you supposed to be out of school?"
York turned my head towards the window, "With the sun shining so brightly, what daydream are you having?"
"You didn't go to school!" I exclaimed happily.
York mumbled, "I was worried you'd die at home!"
I sighed, "Sigh, my son is such a sweetheart. I wonder which lucky girl will end up with him!"
York: "…Shut up, you!"
