On Monday, I returned to work.
A colleague nudged me. "Lila has already submitted her article, and I heard it's pretty good."
"But she used your video footage."
I got up to see the editor-in-chief.
In the office, the editor-in-chief and the deputy editor were praising Lila's article.
"You have to admit, the writing flow is excellent. Not bad for a newcomer."
Lila couldn't hide her smug expression.
"I've sent you the first draft via email."
After knocking and reminding him, I left.
"Elise."
Lila called out to me from behind.
She asked sourly, "How many private lessons did Mr. Hebert give you?"
I looked her straight in the eye, completely open. "I was just like you, I only found out about his identity right before the interview."
"Don't try to hide it. Being able to pinpoint Mr. Hebert's key points, who would believe it wasn't him helping you?"
The deputy editor suddenly came out and called me over.
"Elise, your article is good. We're using yours this time."
With that simple statement, the smile vanished from Lila's face.
"Why?"
"Just because her husband is Finley?"
The deputy editor had never liked her. "Elise's writing is seasoned, with independent thought and depth. Why shouldn't I use it? You can doubt my ability, but don't insult my professional ethics."
"It's just favoritism. This place, whoever wants to stay can stay."
Lila looked as if she'd suffered a great injustice and stormed out.
Once the interview article was published, it was reprinted by major financial newspapers.
Finley's interview video topped the trending list in the financial section.
Someone spotted the video and posted it in an entertainment gossip group.
"Isn't Elise the wife who specializes in giving us insider news?"
"@Ella: Mrs., have you switched careers?"
I replied, "No change in career, just starting to cover the financial section."
I still had a decent fan base online.
The comment section was filled with lamentations. "No insider news, sad."
"The loss of you in the gossip world is a loss for humanity."
"Hasn't anyone noticed that Mrs Hebert. is also amazing at financial interviews?"
"A college student says, it's very insightful."
In just a couple of days, the gossip section and the financial section started cross-referencing each other.
Someone suddenly took a screenshot.
They circled our ring fingers.
"Is this a couple's ring?"
The post quickly gathered a crowd of onlookers.
One person said, "This looks like a wedding ring."
Second floor: "Check the character introduction on Baidu, Finley is married."
Subsequently, the comments on the post started growing exponentially.
While I was editing the manuscript next to Finley, my phone started vibrating frequently.
"How are you?"
Finley asked.
Confused, I opened my phone and saw the rapidly increasing comments and private messages.
I clicked on one randomly, and it was a picture.
It was covered in text.
I only had time to read the title:
Seductive Gossip Reporter Elise × Cold CEO Finley (H)?
Alarm bells rang in my head.
Not good, something's fishy!
In the next second, I turned around and met Finley's inquisitive gaze.
I quickly hid my phone.
He probably… didn't see it…
"Nothing. It's late, let's sleep."
I went to take a shower. When I came back, I saw Finley scrolling through his phone, lost in thought.
I suddenly had a bad feeling.
I peeked over, and the bold and vivid text made my eyes widen in shock.
"Don't look!"
Finley laughed. "I think it's pretty good… why don't we try it? There are two here, pick the one you like."
The phone ended up in the sheets.
Those enthusiastic netizens who created content never imagined that every word they wrote would be faithfully enacted that very night.
