The room was pitch black, except for a faint light coming from the bathroom.
There was a large lump on the bed.
Tiffany had covered her head with the blanket and, hearing movement, assumed it was Jayson.
"Jay, Denise isn't at home, I was worried you'd be cold, so I came to warm your bed for you." Her coquettish voice was so soft and weak that it gave me goosebumps.
Mama pressed the switch with a stern expression.
The room instantly lit up.
Tiffany waited a moment, then poked her head out from under the covers. Seeing mama and me, she turned pale and screamed.
"How, how is it you two?"
"I must be blind to have someone as shameless as you."
Mama was shaking with anger.
"Godmother, it's not what it looks like."
Tiffany was still trying to explain.
"Pah, don't call me godmother. I'm a decent person." After cursing, she reached to pull the blanket, but stopped short when she saw Tiffany's revealing attire.
Mama went back to fetch some clothes for Tiffany.
Jayson came out of the bathroom, grinning and asking for praise.
"How well did your husband act, huh?"
What did you act?
You were just a prop.
But in the end, if it weren't for Jayson's appearance, Tiffany wouldn't have fallen for it.
I gave him a perfunctory smile.
"You... teamed up to play me?" Tiffany's gaze was murderous, and the blanket had slipped below her shoulders.
Jayson tried to turn around, but I quickly covered his face and pushed him into the bathroom.
"Stay in there quietly. Don't come out until I call you.
Tiffany took her time changing into the clothes and then came into the living room.
Her brother Mark had already arrived.
"Come over here quickly."
Mark glared at her, clearly disappointed.
"You, you're so foolish. If it weren't for your godmother, who took you two in out of respect for your parents, you'd be living on the streets. How could you do something so disgraceful?"
"You've made me lose all my face."
Mark was genuinely embarrassed.
Since entering the house, he had been too ashamed to meet my mom's gaze.
Tiffany sat next to Mark in silence.
Mark was so angry that he wanted to hit her.
"Do you have something wrong with your head? I'm not the one who's wrong. They teamed up to set me up." Tiffany didn't realize her mistake and shouted defiantly.
Mark's eyes were filled with disbelief.
His face was red and his neck was flushed.
"You..."
Mama interjected, "Your sibling issues, you should resolve them at home."
She looked at Mark. "I called you here today to witness that I am severing ties with Tiffany. From now on, I am no longer her godmother, and she is no longer my goddaughter."
Mark nodded and bowed repeatedly, apologizing profusely.
He took Tiffany and the baby and left as if they had grease under their feet.
I stood at the door watching them leave. Halfway down, Tiffany looked back at me with a cold and terrifying gaze, wishing she could dismember me.
She cursed my ancestors in her mind.
I didn't care at all.
It was just the powerless barking of a loser. I slowly curved my lips upwards, flashing her a victorious smile.
Tiffany almost spat out a mouthful of blood.
