The project Giovanna took over ran into problems. The client refused to meet with her and insisted on following the contract terms.
A project that required my personal attention for half a year would naturally come with a sky-high compensation fee.
It wasn’t wasted effort to bring Giovanna back from abroad at a high price and provide her with every opportunity.
She truly had some skills when it came to Carl.
Carl was busy visiting various influential figures every day, hoping to get someone to mediate and secure a chance for communication with the client.
After making the rounds, someone finally revealed to him that the client trusted me from the start, and only if I stepped in would there be a chance for resolution.
When he returned to the office in a state of panic, the signed divorce papers were waiting on his desk.
Carl stormed into my office with the divorce papers in hand, furious.
"Sasha, you’re kicking me when I’m down!"
I looked up at him.
"President Fu, the compensation for this project will completely drain the group’s cash flow. In business terms, is it wrong to cut losses promptly?"
He glared at me coldly, disbelief practically pouring out of his eyes.
"After twenty years of friendship, you’re talking to me about business?"
I was amused by his anger.
"Mr. Madden, you’ve gotten someone pregnant. You’re coming to me about friendship?"
Carl’s bravado immediately diminished.
"Sash, that’s not what I meant."
"You also hold shares in the group. Damage to the group’s interests will affect your own."
"Can you step in and help me?"
I leaned back in my chair, looking at this man who had once been so proud and powerful.
He actually bowed his head for a woman.
In his expectant gaze, I shook my head slowly but firmly.
"The shares in the company mean nothing to me. Gains or losses don’t matter much."
"Mr. Madden, you should sign the papers as soon as possible."
"I’ll make room for your angle."
The situation couldn’t be dragged out any longer, and it finally reached the board of directors.
The board issued a strict order to Carl: the issue must be resolved properly, or he would face accountability according to regulations.
After the meeting, I followed Carl out of the conference room.
Giovanna, her eyes red and swollen, waited for him at the conference room door.
As soon as she saw him, she rushed over and wrapped her arms around his waist.
"Carlito, how did it go? Did the chairman agree to have Sasha intervene to help you?"
I chuckled.
"Well, here are the board’s decisions."
"First, Mr. Madden must resolve this. Second, if he cannot, and the group suffers losses, he will be held accountable, potentially affecting his decision-making authority within the group. Third, as a party involved, the group will also hold you responsible."
Giovanna was stunned.
In front of all the directors, she hugged Carl and burst into tears.
"What should we do, Carlito? I’m so scared…"
The directors kept their distance from the two of them.
Carl’s face was grim, and he pulled Giovanna along towards his office.
I suddenly felt playful and shouted loudly,
"Mr. Madden! Mr. Madden! Be careful! Giovanna is pregnant!"
In response, I heard the door slam shut.
It felt good.
The argument from Carl’s office lasted all day.
When I passed by after work, I could still hear the sound of things being thrown inside.
I happily met friends for dinner and, upon returning home, found Carl unexpectedly waiting for me.
"It’s not easy, Mr. Madden. After all these months, you still remember which way the door opens."
He stood up and took my coat from me.
His face was genuinely unpleasant to look at.
"Sash, help me."
