Sidney rubbed her nose and went into the kitchen to make two servings of pasta. She tossed in some vegetables and cooked up a bit of ground pork before bringing it out to serve to Jayson. Jayson looked exhausted, slumped in the dining chair, his eyes closed in a state of rest. His chin showed signs of stubble, as though he hadn't shaved for a day or two. Sidney didn't dare to speak, simply setting the plate down before quickly heading back to the kitchen. However, Jayson suddenly opened his eyes and said to her, "Aren't you going to have your pasta?"
Sidney felt that today's Jayson was behaving unusually—he was actually concerned about her!
"Oh, inside."
"Come out and eat with me." Jayson pinched the bridge of his nose and sighed before picking up his fork to twirl the pasta.
Sidney brought out her own plate of pasta and placed a cup in front of Jayson.
"Coffee." Sidney thought he probably needed something to wake him up. If he didn't drink it, it would just be wasting his money, not hers.
The two of them ate quietly, focusing on their noodles. Jayson suddenly broke the silence, "The flavor is a bit weak."
"It's late, you can't eat something too salty."
Jayson didn't say anything else and continued eating. Sidney didn't expect that the two of them could have such a peaceful meal together and was a little surprised.
After finishing his meal, Jayson wiped his mouth with a napkin and noticed that where the flowers had been in the center of the table, there was now a cake. He stared at it for a while before asking, "Who made this?"
Sidney hadn't finished eating yet. After swallowing the noodles in her mouth, she said, "I did."
"You can make this?"
"Yeah, I guess I know a little bit about it!"
"Why make this?"
"Nothing, I was just bored."
Jayson stared at the cake, looking lost in thought. "Cut me a piece and let me try it."
Sidney's eyes widened, and she quickly glanced at Jayson. His expression looked as if he had seen some kind of monster. She never thought Jayson would like such sweet and greasy food.
"…"
Seeing that Sidney wasn't moving, Jayson glanced at her from the corner of his eye.
"You can't eat this," Sidney hesitated for a moment but still told him.
"Mm?"
"I promised to give this to someone."
"Who?"
"I don't need to tell you, do I?"
"Can't you just make another one tomorrow morning to solve it?"
"…. That means waking up really early, and I'm tired. I want to rest."
Jayson didn't say anything else. He stared at Sidney, as if looking for something on her face. Then he snorted with a look of indifference and got up, heading upstairs.
Sidney stood there, reflecting on whether she had been too blunt just now. After all, it was just a piece of cake. There didn't seem to be any need to make a big deal out of it. The butler wasn't in a hurry. Actually, she could still remake it tomorrow morning.
She took out a knife, cut a piece of cake, and carried it upstairs. Jayson was in the bathroom taking a shower. She placed it on the nightstand, thinking he would see it when he came out after finishing his shower.
After Jayson finished his shower, he came out wearing a thick bathrobe. Sidney was sitting on the edge of the bed, idly flipping through a book she had tossed on the bed earlier, though she was distracted, secretly observing him. The bathrobe tie was loosely knotted, and the robe was open at the chest. Sidney caught a glimpse of his chest muscles. He sat on the bed, applied toner and lotion to his face, and then used the towel hanging from his shoulder to dry his hair before getting up and leaving the bed.
"Cake..." Sidney couldn't help but speak up.
Jayson turned to look at her and said coldly, "I've already brushed my teeth, I'm not eating."
Sidney pouted and called after him, "You can brush again after you eat!"
"Hmph! I don't eat charity food."
"Hey! What do you mean by that? Who's giving you charity?" Sidney stood up to argue with him, feeling that her good intentions were unappreciated. She let him eat the cake, yet he was still acting so arrogant.
"Wasn't this meant for someone else?"
"…I can make another one tomorrow."
"Didn't you say you were too tired to make more?" Jayson turned his whole body around, crossing his arms and leaning against the doorframe.
"I was being nice!" Sidney thought she shouldn't have softened and given it to him in the first place.
"Hmph! If I want cake, it's easy. One call, and someone will deliver it to me right away. Why would I need your lousy cake?"
"…" Hearing her cake described like that, Sidney was extremely displeased. Suddenly, something came to her mind, and she blurted out, "It has strawberry sauce and pear filling inside. Don't eat it if you don't want to!"
As soon as Sidney said that, Jayson frowned, looked at her seriously, then unexpectedly strode over to the bedside table, grabbed the cake, and stuffed it into his mouth in big bites.
Sidney had only guessed that her words might provoke a reaction from Jayson, but she hadn't expected him to react so strongly.
"The strawberry sauce is too bland, the pear filling isn't soft enough, and the cream doesn't have enough flavor. It's just not the same." Jayson licked the cream from the corner of his mouth, his tongue brushing over the white residue.
Sidney was momentarily stunned by the way he licked his lips. It was as if she was transported back to childhood, seeing a mischievous little boy fully enjoying a piece of cake, utterly content.
"…Hmph! If you don't like it, then don't eat it! It wasn't made for you anyway!"
