Half a month before the wedding, in order to let everyone in B City's social circle know that the bride the Nixon family married was his second daughter, Sanaa, Sidney's father had recently started bringing her out instead of his eldest daughter, Sanaa, to various cocktail parties and galas.
Recently, Sidney had been taken out almost every evening by Sanaa. As one might expect, when she went out with her father, who cared about his image, he would naturally have her styled by a designer and dressed in a high-end brand gown or dress, transforming her into someone completely different from her usual self.
Today, the designer had her wear an elegant custom silk backless gown, paired with a few simple crystal accessories and a luxurious clutch, her long hair elegantly pinned up. Her father looked on with great satisfaction; this was the time they had spent together the most since they had known each other.
They arrived at the restaurant, took the elevator straight to the eleventh floor, and with a crisp "ding," the elevator doors opened to yet another lavish venue. Sidney awkwardly linked her arm with her father's as they moved forward. Her father habitually greeted the people he knew in the room and, at the same time, introduced his second daughter, who rarely socialized, mentioning that she would soon marry into the Nixon family and subtly hinting that the Nixon family would also provide strong support for the Calderon family's business.
Sidney smiled stiffly, wanting to escape, when she overheard a guest say that Jayson seemed to be invited tonight as well. She wondered whether the loving couple would make an appearance together.
Sidney had no idea about this and could only awkwardly say, "He's really busy today, and I can't be sure if he'll come."
Just as she finished speaking, a voice came from behind her, smooth and confident. "My fiancée really knows me well. But to see you, I made an exception."
Sidney immediately broke into a sweat, feeling that her pretense of familiarity with her father had been exposed right then and there, making her extremely embarrassed.
When Sanaa saw Jayson arrive, she couldn't hide her delight. She let go of Sidney, pulled Jayson closer, and began bragging about how thoughtful her son-in-law was. She went on about how he always checked in on him and how he'd even bought him a bunch of rare health supplements to help improve his well-being.
Sidney was left in the background, so she decided to slip away to the restroom to catch her breath. When she returned, she couldn't find either of them in the venue. She chose to wait in place, sipping a glass of juice carefully, afraid of smearing her lipstick, while glancing around the room.
A voice came from behind. "You guys really love acting like one big happy family, huh?"
Sidney immediately turned around and saw Jayson sitting on the couch not far behind her.
He waved at Sidney.
Sidney walked over with her drink in hand and looked down at Jayson sitting on the couch. She couldn't help but silently sigh at how unfair life was; even from this angle, this man still exuded an overwhelming presence.
"Sit down," he said.
Sidney sat down obediently next to Jayson.
"Your wedding hasn't even taken place yet, and your father is already eager to network. Once you're actually married, will he start making demands?"
"I don't know. Business matters have never been my concern."
"Alright, let me make this clear. Neither Opal Lounge nor the resort is just mine. There are a lot of shareholders and partners involved. I can't change anything for you just because we're getting married. Honestly, you'd be better off telling your father this yourself—before he has a chance to back out."
"Mr. Nixon, I would also like to confirm one thing."
"Go ahead."
"If I don't get pregnant within six months after marriage, will we get a divorce?"
"Yes." Jayson looked at Sidney with a puzzled glance, not understanding the reason behind her question.
"I see." Sidney bit her lower lip hard, trying to hold back a smile.
A married couple walked up to them from the front of the sofa. Seeing Jayson and Sidney, they smiled and complimented them, saying they made such a perfect couple. Sidney, out of politeness, stood up as well and smiled while greeting them beside Jayson. Suddenly, Jayson reached out and wrapped an arm around her waist. Sidney shuddered, goosebumps spreading all over her body. She subtly turned her head to smile at Jayson, and he was smiling back at her. To the onlookers, they seemed like a couple deeply in love, their chemistry undeniable, as if they were already on the verge of walking down the aisle together.
