Sapphire trembled in fear and thought she reacted quickly, running toward the river.
As long as she got into the river, she'd be fine!
It was better than being on land.
But she hadn't gone far before the fallen werewolf lunged forward, blocking her path.
"Awrooo! Still trying to get to the water?"
Sapphire let out a frightened howl, turned, and rushed back toward the forest.
She was done for...
She was doomed again...
In the water, she had been lucky. But in this dark forest, she was really... really done for. Whimpering...
"Awuuu..." The female werewolf ran and cried, the threat of death and overwhelming fear consuming her mind.
No one was coming to save her.
As the fallen lone werewolf pinned her heavily to the ground, despair flashed through Sapphire's eyes.
The foul-smelling maw of the fallen werewolf came down hard, aiming to tear through her neck.
The small female werewolf closed her eyes, accepting her fate.
She would no longer hope for that werewolf to save her. They weren't family or mates; she had long accepted that reality.
So, in that moment, she hadn't thought of that werewolf at all. Maybe he would see her body, though.
Perhaps he would feel a bit sorry; after all, she was a werewolf he had once saved. But eventually, he would just sigh and turn away.
Lately, she found that there was truth in a saying of humans—that love is a one-sided affair, and she can't demand someone to feel the same.
Why should someone she love have to reciprocate the same feelings?
She had taken things too much for granted before.
Being so self-righteous, unreasonable, and even using tears to threaten him—Sapphire felt it was natural that such a version of herself wasn't liked.
However, her tearful threats had worked, and her self-righteousness and unreasonable behavior had been tolerated.
She had overlooked that fact.
So she didn't realize that on this chaotic night, the moment Luna Palace had fallen into trouble, a male werewolf had focused all his attention on her.
"Roar!!" An angry low growl sounded as if from a distance, and in the next second, the weight on her was lifted as the fallen werewolf pinning her was knocked away.
In an instant, their positions were reversed.
Now, it was the fallen werewolf lying on the ground, being savagely torn apart.
The female werewolf was stunned.
She flipped over and crawled up, hiding behind a large tree, trembling as she watched the pure gray giant wolf tear the fallen werewolf's flesh apart.
She hadn't even thought he would come.
But... he came again.
Always when she least expected it.
Sapphire huddled under the tree, tears streaming uncontrollably.
"Whimper... whimper..."
The pure gray werewolf heard her and stopped.
The giant wolf's body began to shift, emitting cracking sounds as it transformed.
He took on a bipedal form and turned, striding toward the female.
He took off his gray coat and draped it over the small werewolf.
"Sapphire, it's over now."
This scene was just like back then.
"Awuu... awoo..." Sapphire said softly.
I killed a fallen werewolf.
Right by the pond at the foot of the mountain.
"Not bad, you've improved a lot," Magnus said sincerely.
A breeze blew by.
Sapphire snapped out of it, seeing that he was now in a half-human form. She quickly backed away, hiding behind the tree to shift into her human form.
In general, werewolves wouldn't reveal their pure wolf form unless necessary—it was like being unclothed for humans.
"Thank you, you saved me again," she said, standing a bit further away.
"Are you hurt anywhere?"
She pulled her foot back slightly.
Magnus's gaze dropped briefly before he said, "I'll carry you back."
"No need." Sapphire lowered her head and spoke softly, "I'm already very grateful you came to save me. I don't want to trouble you more."
Magnus's brow furrowed slightly.
In the past, this female would have been quite happy.
What was going on now?
He stepped forward, his voice carrying its usual authority as he instructed, "I'll take you back first; we'll talk later if anything else comes up."
Sapphire took a step back.
"No, I said, I don't want to trouble you."
There was no point in continuing like this.
Magnus's eyes darkened slightly as he quietly looked at her.
"I have time to walk with you, but only if you're not hurt," he said.
He Stepped forward with an unreadable expression. Without hesitation, he scooped up Sapphire in his arms and took off, leaping swiftly into the forest.
