Basil didn't know if happiness was around the corner, but after letting go of the burden of Lettie, he inexplicably felt rejuvenated, just like Lettie said.
"Bas, what are we eating today?" Cierra stood in front of the luxurious kitchen, her lips curved in a shallow smile. She was fiddling with the ingredients she and Basil had just bought from the supermarket, eagerly anticipating what new dish Basil would teach her to cook today!
"Macaroni and Cheese." Basil naturally walked behind Cierra, subtly encircling her in front of him. His strong arms reached around her to sort the ingredients on the table.
"These need to go in the fridge, those in the freezer, and we'll use these in a bit."
Basil sorted the ingredients one by one, his long, sexy fingers catching Cierra's gaze.
She didn't catch what Basil was saying, her senses overwhelmed by his masculine scent. His firm chest pressed against her back, and she could almost feel his pounding heartbeat.
In recent days, he used the excuse that her contract as his love manager wasn't terminated yet, asking her to move in to take care of him. He claimed he had been sleepless for days but miraculously had a good dream the afternoon he held her hand.
So, she had to make up a story about the entire crew going to an out-of-town shoot with an uncertain return date to deceive Cynthia. She packed a large suitcase and ended up staying at his place.
His skin seemed to thicken daily. He leaned closer to her ear and whispered, "You seem to have gained weight?" His breath, like a delicate web, enveloped her completely.
It was all his fault. When he pulled his hand back, he had unintentionally brushed her waist. Blushing, Cierra quickly turned and glared at Basil. What was this? Did she ask him to worry about her figure?
"Bas, move over." At times like this, the best punishment was to make him—get—out—of—the—way!
His low laughter was sexy and enticing. His lips brushed her ear before he stepped back.
Cierra shivered slightly. She was about to turn and scold the culprit but got lost in his eyes, reflecting a world of fireworks, and her anger dissipated completely.
"Ugh, just stay away from me!" The director had become unpredictable lately. She lowered her head, trying to calm her tumultuous emotions.
The director laughed again, his beautiful eyes layered with her reflection.
"Alright." Basil playfully raised his hands in surrender and stepped back a bit.
On the first day Cierra moved in with her suitcase, Basil had a heartfelt conversation with her. He told her his true feelings, explaining that he had realized he cared for her more than Lettie. He had ignored these feelings due to his long-standing obsession.
Until the final straw appeared.
But now, even if he knew he liked Cierra, so what? Had Cierra fallen for him? Or would she accept a man who was awkward in love and perhaps didn't even know how to love?
So he took a step back, asking her only to agree to give them more time and space to get to know each other. An internationally renowned director lowering himself like this might sound shocking, but who cares? As long as he felt it was worth it, that was enough!
Cierra didn't need to agree to anything right now. They were more than friends but far from being lovers.
His mood had lightened. For the first time in over ten years, he slept well and woke up refreshed, thanks in part to having her warm hand to hold at night.
Cierra's cast had been removed. Every morning, he accompanied her to her simple rehab exercises, then they would go to the supermarket together to decide on lunch and dinner ingredients. Back home, he taught her to cook. Though she wasted more ingredients than they ate, she was making slow progress.
He felt grateful. After the darkest period with Lettie, he was gradually seeing the dawn of a new life.
