The final diagnosis from the doctor was that Cierra's right wrist had a bone fracture, requiring reduction and a plaster cast. She would need to start rehabilitation in a month.
Darnell initially felt distressed upon hearing this, but then he realized, how was she supposed to act with a right hand wrapped like a mummy?
Later, Basil arrived at the hospital to check on Cierra's condition, but Lettie also came along. The moment Darnell saw Lettie, he became wary, pursing his lips and stepping back to observe coldly.
"Cierra, are you okay? I thought about it later and realized it might have been my carelessness that tripped you and caused you to fall," Lettie said tearfully upon seeing Cierra's bandaged right hand. She held Cierra's hand and kept crying, though this time, perhaps because it was wrapped like a mummy, she didn't squeeze it hard.
Basil also looked very grim. He hadn't expected the injury to be so severe. He softly reassured her, "You shouldn't participate in the filming for now. I'll skip the scenes without you. You should rest well at home."
Darnell crossed his arms and raised an eyebrow, "How can that be? Cierra needs to keep honing her acting skills," otherwise, she wouldn't even know when that witch tore her apart. "The urgent matter now is to hire her an assistant. Until we find one, I can act as her driver and take her to the set."Darnell felt that Cierra would be lucky to have any bones left by the time she returned to the film set a month later to report for duty asCierra had suggested. The mere thought of the vixen framing her made Darnellshudder in revulsion.
He crouched down next to her, staring at her at eye level, "You need to keep honing your acting skills. If you rest for a month, many things will be different." His words had an underlying meaning, and Cierra understood, but she didn't know how to respond. Basil was her employer and boss, so she felt she should follow his orders.
"Alright then, let Darnell take you to and from the set. Come to the set as usual when there's filming, but don't push yourself. As for the assistant, I've already asked Jakayla to handle it quickly. It should be resolved in a day or two. Then your assistant can take care of everything for you. Cierra—" Basil's deep eyes were full of apology, "I'm sorry, it was my oversight not arranging an assistant sooner."
"It's okay. Darnell will take me, so I'm not at a loss, right?" Cierra stuck out her tongue, feeling relieved, and subtly winked at Darnell. This was their little secret—they had formed an alliance two hours ago.
Lettie, seemingly unwilling to be left out, tried hard to insert herself into the conversation, "Cierra, are you hungry? Should I ask Alivia to get you something to eat?"
"I'm not hungry!"
"No need!"
Cierra and Darnell refused in unison. Cierra scratched her nose with her good left hand, seeing Lettie's eyes redden again, she quickly added, "I'm not hungry, Lettie. Darnell bought me an energy drink earlier. I'm fine now. I'll eat when I get home after being discharged."
After realizing that Lettie harbored ill intentions towards her, Cierra couldn't afford to let her guard down, no matter how careless she usually was. She and Darnell seemed to be on the same page. What if Lettie ordered her assistant to put laxatives in the food or drinks? Although it might seem overly paranoid, one can't be too careful. It's better to be cautious than to regret it later.
"Alright, then I'll have my assistant buy you some fruit tomorrow. I heard that people recover faster if they get more vitamin C."
"Really, it's not necessary. I just accidentally fell, Lettie. You don't need to feel guilty, really, it's nothing." Cierra said each word while looking at Lettie with wide eyes, actually wanting to convey, "You will pay for it."
But Lettie clearly didn't catch her deeper meaning. She took a deep breath and said, "When you 'fell' by yourself on the set just now, I was so shocked! Luckily, it's nothing serious."
Cierra looked up at Darnell and found him also looking at her. They both felt awkward about Lettie emphasizing the word "yourself." It seemed like she wanted to absolve herself of any blame.
"I'll take you home after settling the medical bill," Basil suddenly said.
"Let me take Cierra home. I need to know where she lives so I can pick her up tomorrow," Darnell quickly intervened. He still had plans to discuss with Cierra about dealing with the "witch," so he had to trouble Basil this time.
"Alright, drive carefully then," Basil turned and advised Darnell.
"Basil, can you take me home? I came here in your car and already sent my assistant and the nanny car back," Lettie pouted, acting like a spoiled girl as she tugged on Basil's sleeve.
However, in Darnell's mind, the image was of the witch pouting and then opening her mouth, extending her long tongue, ready to wrap Basil's entire body. She was a thousand-year-old snake spirit! He decided to hold a three-second moment of silence for Basil in his heart. One second, two seconds, three seconds. Alright, moment of silence over. He swore in the name of "Darnell" that starting tomorrow, he and Cierra would protect Basil together!
