Mikayla was coughing violently on the side, her face turning red. Cannon rolled his eyes at Annie, "I knew nothing sensible could come out of your mouth. With your imagination, it's a pity you don't write novels."
Annie stomped her foot in frustration, "I'm serious! Elliana told me herself that Cayden's family situation is very complicated!"
"Then why do you assume he's a widower?" Cannon retorted with hands on his hips.
"Look, Cayden never mentions his wife to us, and his work hasn't changed a bit, but he always wears a ring. My theory is totally plausible. And imagine if it gets more dramatic, we might even see Mikayla's name in entertainment headlines someday!"
"Be careful. If Cayden finds out you're calling him a widower behind his back, he might fire you," Cannon said, making a slashing motion across his neck.
Annie clenched her fists in anger, "Cayden wouldn't do that!"
Out of nowhere, Zion appeared behind Annie, sighed, and placed some documents on the desk, "Sort these out and send them to the CEO's office before the end of the day."
Annie's face fell instantly. Cannon snickered, "Put your imagination aside and get to work!"
Meanwhile, Cayden had just ended his meeting when Elliana walked into his office, complaining, "You're really busy. I had to wait forever to see you."
Cayden frowned and massaged his temples, "Why is your phone off?"
"How could I dare turn it on? You have no idea how my manager's been freaking out, calling me nonstop. I can't handle it."
"Then why did you come to my office?"
"Uh..." Elliana, feeling guilty, sat down in front of him and forced a smile, "I saw Marcus's car downstairs at your place when I went to pick up takeout. I don't want to see him, so I came to your company."
Before Cayden could respond, Elliana's phone rang again. She seemed to make a significant decision and answered the call, holding the phone away from her ear to avoid the loud shouting.
"Elliana!!! You're something else! Answering my call now! Do you know I haven't slept since last night!"
She replied softly, "Then you should get some sleep. Don't worry about me."
"You're getting too big for your boots! You've only been back a few days and already caused such a mess! You're really something!" The man on the other end calmed down, then asked, "Where are you now?"
Elliana blinked, glancing mischievously at Cayden, "I'm at my cousin's company. Don't think you can come and get me." Cayden leaned back in his chair, resigned to being her shield.
"You! Just wait!"
The call ended with a beep. Elliana shrugged and stood up, "Fine, I won't bother you anymore. I'll go sit in the break room. Remember to take me home after work."
After taking a few steps, she turned back, "You and your wife must be really close, seeing each other all the time, even keeping your marriage secret at work!"
Cayden tapped his pen on the desk, his tone cold, "During work hours, business is business."
Elliana clicked her tongue a few times, "Why so touchy over a few words?"
"And don't disturb her work."
Elliana pouted, "Got it, you're so strict!"
