Chapter 33

　　During lunch break, just as Annie was linking arms with Mikayla and heading back from the cafeteria, they saw Elliana appear in front of them. Annie stared at her in astonishment.
　　"Whoa, is this... real!?"
　　Elliana was equally surprised. She hadn't known Mikayla worked at Cayden's company and was just about to greet her with "Mikayla..."
　　Mikayla rushed over and cut her off, "Sorry! Miss Novak, are you here to see Cayden?" She desperately gave her a look and made a shushing motion at her mouth.
　　Elliana blinked a few times but quickly caught on. "Oh! Yes! I'm here to see my cousin."
　　Mikayla led her to the reception room, with Annie following closely, admiring the beauty. She leaned in to whisper to Mikayla, "She's so pretty even without makeup!"
　　Elliana clearly heard this and turned to smile at her. "Thank you."
　　Annie blushed deeply. Mikayla settled Elliana in, poured her a glass of water, and said, "Cayden is in an online meeting. Please wait a moment."
　　"No problem." Elliana sat nervously. How did Mikayla become a secretary? She had to play along now.
　　Annie sneakily pulled out a piece of paper from somewhere. "Miss Novak, can I have your autograph?"
　　"Of course!"
　　"I saw your piano performance video this morning. It was amazing! Um... even though I joined your fan base a bit late, don't let those rumors get to you!"
　　"It's okay. I think my video beating up the scumbag was pretty cool too."
　　"By the way, I misjudged you before, Miss Novak. Last week, I saw you and Cayden at C carthedral and thought you were the CEO's wife."
　　Elliana gave Mikayla a meaningful look. "Haha, how could I be the CEO's wife?"
　　Mikayla acted as if she knew nothing, while Elliana decided to tease the naive secretary. "Don't you know who the CEO's wife is?"
　　Annie shook her head. Elliana put on a pitiful expression. "Cayden's family situation is a bit complicated. It's not my place to say, you understand?"
　　Annie's "smart" little brain immediately filled in the blanks. "I understand, I understand."
　　Mikayla felt a mix of relief and worry. Relief because Elliana didn't seem too affected by the news, and worry because Annie might concoct more wild stories.
　　When Cayden finally finished his meeting, Elliana went to his office. Annie dragged Mikayla back to their desks at lightning speed.
　　"Cannon! Guess who we just saw!"
　　Cannon, busy organizing reports, looked up. "Who?"
　　"Elliana!"
　　He was surprised. "The pianist who's all over the news? Cayden's cousin?"
　　"Yes! And I found out a huge secret."
　　Cannon perked up. "What? Is it about today's big gossip?"Cannon perked up. "What? Is it about today's big gossip?"
　　"No! It's about Cayden. Come closer!" Annie beckoned him over.
　　Mikayla decided to play the invisible person. She sipped her water quietly, thinking Annie should be a gossip columnist instead of working in an office.
　　Annie whispered to Cannon, but loud enough for Mikayla to hear. "I suspect Cayden... he's a widower!"
　　Mikayla was so startled she spat out her water. She knew Annie's imagination could only lead to some odd conclusions, and now she had inadvertently cursed herself too.
