In the KTV room, dazzling disco balls changed colors in sync with the music, creating a flashy and extravagant atmosphere. Cannon, the karaoke king, randomly picked a few songs and sang passionately on stage. Mikayla munched on popcorn and downed several cups of beer mixed with white wine, occasionally cheering for Cannon.
Annie worried that she might get drunk, "Mikayla, can you still drink?"
"Do you think this amount of alcohol can get me drunk?" Mikayla looked at Annie incredulously, then took a big gulp to prove her point.
Cayden overheard their conversation and coughed, "Mikayla, don't drink too much."
Everyone's eyes turned to Mikayla, who was burning with anger. Why did he have to control how much she drank? If looks could kill, Mikayla would have slaughtered Cayden. But to avoid raising suspicions, she had to obey her boss. She pushed her glass away and hung her head, looking pitiful. "Okay."
Annie tried to smooth things over, "Haha, Mikayla is a bit drunk. Let's We'll call it a day today."
Cannon, having just finished a love song, quickly changed the topic, "Uh, Mr. Novak, how about you sing one?"
Everyone started egging her on, "Sing one, sing one." After all, it was rare to see the usually aloof CEO sing.
Cayden raised an eyebrow and didn't refuse. The next song was one he knew. He picked up the microphone, and his deep, magnetic voice filled the room.
As the song reached its climax, everyone was entranced by the music. Annie whispered to Mikayla, "Wow, Mr.Novak sings so well."
Bolstered by the alcohol, Mikayla suddenly stood up. She stumbled to the stage, grabbed Cannon's microphone, and with a determined look, pressed the "next song" button on the control panel.
Annie rushed to support the unsteady Mikayla, and Cannon quickly stepped aside. Mikayla picked up the microphone and solemnly announced, "I'll sing a song I'm good at."
Cayden's face darkened, and everyone held their breath, praying they'd still see Mikayla in the company tomorrow.
Annie and Cannon exchanged looks of astonishment. One sang even better than the other. Who knew they all had such hidden talents?
The moving melody and Mikayla's emotional singing seemed to tell a story. While some found it amusing and others were captivated by her voice, only Cayden noticed the tears glistening in her eyes as she sang.
As the night wore on, the cool evening breeze sobered Mikayla a bit. She crouched at the entrance, covering her face with her hands. Some colleagues had already left in their cabs, but Annie was still worried about her, speaking up for her to Cayden.
"Mr.Novak, Miss Mclean is drunk today. Please don't hold it against her." Annie hesitated, then added, "Mikayla is a really good person and very capable at work..."
"I know," Cayden said, glancing at Mikayla squatting on the ground. She was muttering to herself, "I'm not drunk, just dizzy."
"I'll take her home. You go ahead."
"Ah... okay."
Under the bright streetlights, only two figures remained. Mikayla wobbled to her feet, and Cayden immediately supported her.
"Let's go home. I'm so tired!" "Let's go home. I'm so tired!"
Cayden held her slender wrist firmly, leaving no room for resistance. He gazed into her moist eyes and said, "Don't drink so much next time."
Mikayla's temper flared, "Why do you have to control me when I go out with colleagues!"
Cayden was annoyed, "It's a good thing I came. How would you get home otherwise?"
"I told you, I'm not drunk, just dizzy... If I were drunk, I'd call you to pick me up." She finished weakly, like a child admitting a mistake.
Cayden snorted and helped her into the car. "Now you know how to use me."
Half-awake, half-asleep, Mikayla leaned her head against the seat, her pale skin blushing slightly under the moonlight, her long lashes fluttering gently, unwilling to disturb her dreams.
"Mikayla."
"Yeah." "Yes?" She responded, knowing Cayden was calling her, but not opening her eyes.
"Who were you trying to sing that song for?" He could sense a different emotion in her singing.
Mikayla opened her eyes, meeting Cayden's gaze directly. She always feared looking into his eyes, as if he could see through her completely.
"For... the ... ghosts."
After saying that, she turned away in a huff, closing her eyes to sleep. Cayden glanced at her, regretting asking someone who wasn't fully conscious.
Mikayla hid her disappointment, deciding to let herself be sad one last time. After all, a good night's sleep would make everything better.
