Early in the morning, Mikayla dragged her sore body out of bed. Cayden had already prepared breakfast and placed it on the table. Neither of them mentioned what happened last night, and they quietly finished breakfast.
"Wednesday, Wednesday, dragging myself to work to stay alive," Mikayla complained to Linda with the typical grievances of a worker, tapping the screen with her fingers a bit louder than usual. The key was that she didn't dare to curse out loud because the big boss was driving right next to her.
"Why did I impulsively agree to marry him back then? Now I have to work like a horse for him at the company!" Moreover, last night they had a substantial encounter, making their relationship even more complicated.
"It's okay, I'll wait for you to get rich after the divorce and support me." Linda said, covering mouth and laughing
Mikayla glanced at Cayden resentfully but happened to meet his gaze. She immediately turned off her phone guiltily and sat up straight, staring at the red light ahead.
"What's wrong?" Cayden asked casually.
"I'm keeping my distance from you," Mikayla said with a straight face.
Cayden's lips curled into a smile. His long fingers drummed on the steering wheel, seemingly casual.
"What distance?"
Mikayla glared at him suspiciously. "At the company, you're the boss and I'm the employee. We only have a legitimate superior-subordinate relationship."
"So you're saying we have an illegitimate relationship now? What about last night?"
How could this man twist words like that? Mikayla's cheeks flushed.
Unexpectedly, Cayden sighed and said, "So it's wrong for me to drive my wife to work."
Mikayla was dumbfounded and looked at Cayden. Hearing this intimate term, her ears turned a little red.
"Anyway, don't reveal our relationship at the company. Let's maintain a normal social distance."
"Alright."
Mikayla didn't want to become the focus of the company as soon as she started working there. Like one day, while listening to gossip with colleagues, she discovered she was the protagonist.
"Where did you get that ring?" Cayden's ring was hard to miss, seemingly declaring he was taken.
"I bought it the day we got our marriage certificate. Yours is in the study; I'll give it to you when we get home?"
"No need for now." Wearing couple rings could easily be noticed.
Cayden's eyes darkened, but he said nothing.
In the underground parking lot, Mikayla opened the car door first, throwing a sentence to Cayden, "Get out five minutes later." After saying that, she hurriedly ran towards the elevator.
Cayden unhurriedly glanced at his phone. It was 8:55. He was going to be late.
Mikayla arrived at her workstation just in time. Annie, who sat opposite her, greeted her with a smile, "Morning, Mikayla!"
"Morning!" During her first few days, Annie had been helping Mikayla get familiar with the work. Since Mikayla was a year older, Annie affectionately called her "Mikayla," which made Mikayla feel delighted.
Mikayla tidied up the small green plant on her desk, turned on the computer, and started a busy day.
During the lunch break, Mikayla and a few colleagues from the secretarial department went to the cafeteria. Eating eagerly showed a lack of ambition. Mikayla took large bites of the steak on her plate, having to admit that the food at W Group was to her taste.
"Hey, hey, I've got a secret to tell you," Cannon leaned closer to everyone with a gossiping face, his voice unconsciously lowering.
"What?" "What is it?" Annie and Mikayla looked up at him.
Cannon said incredulously, "Mr.Novak was late today!"
Mikayla thought it was some big gossip. "Is that all?"
Annie found it intriguing, "It's rare for Mr.Novak to be late. His workaholic image is deeply rooted."
"Right!" Cannon looked at Annie with approving eyes and continued, "And the president was wearing a ring today!!!" His voice grew louder, attracting quite a few onlookers from nearby tables.
"Mr.Novak is married?" Annie was also surprised, "I didn't see any news about it... It's not strange for him to get married; he's 29, right?"
"It's hard to imagine that Mr.Novak, who's been single for so long, got married before me." Cannon sighed, picking up the greens in his bowl and suddenly finding them tasteless.
Annie immediately retorted, "Come on, at least Mr.Novak is handsome and rich. I'm curious to meet the boss's wife. She must be extraordinary to catch his eye."
Mikayla, the protagonist, guiltily took a few more bites of her food and weakly asked, "Mr.Novak never had a girlfriend before?"
The two people opposite her shook their heads, indicating they had never heard of one. They then diverged into discussing the difficulties of marriages in wealthy families.
"Why would Mr.Novak keep his marriage secret?"
Mikayla thought to herself: It was me who asked him not to make it public.
Annie continued, "According to typical novel plots, maybe Mr.Novak was forced to marry a rich family's daughter. After a while, his true love returned from abroad, and then there would be a melodramatic love triangle."
"You're still reading such novels in 2024?" Cannon looked disdainful.
Annie slammed her bowl down, "Nonsense, I read those billionaire novels in middle school."
While the two were bickering, Mikayla fell into deep thought. She felt the previous reason was good. If Cayden had a true love, she could graciously step aside, allowing them to be together.
Great! She had thought of another good way to get a divorce!
