The glow of the setting sun spread over the bustling streets. Mikayla sat in the passenger seat, propping her head with her hand, looking at the congested traffic outside, feeling a bit annoyed.
"Dinner at home?" The deep voice penetrated her ears. The man in the driver's seat turned his head to look at her. Mikayla responded with a sound and continued to stare blankly at the skyscrapers outside.
The two of them didn't seem like newlyweds who had just gotten their marriage certificate. Mikayla crossed her arms over her chest, leaning sideways in her seat, not wanting to pay him any attention.
He stared at Mikayla for a few seconds, then continued to focus on driving. On the way home, they had nothing to say to each other, only a softly paced song looping in the confined space.
As soon as they opened the door at home, the aroma of meat filled the air. Mikayla immediately put down her bag, changed into slippers, and dashed to the kitchen. Cayden followed behind, slowly taking off his jacket and neatly arranging his shoes before coming in.
"Mrs. Garcia, did you make barbecue ribs today?" Mikayla asked while washing her hands.
"Mr.Novak said you'd be home for dinner today, so I made your favorite dishes," Mrs. Garcia responded with a smile.
"I've been busy with work the past few days and ate at the office. Your cooking is always the best," Mikayla followed closely behind Mrs. Garcia.
"Just text me whatever you want to eat, and I'll cook it for you" Mrs. Garcia concluded her work after serving the last dish onto the dining table. She hung her apron in the kitchen and turned back to bid farewell to Mikayla, saying, "Then, I'll be leaving now."
"Okay, bye-bye."
When leaving, Cayden politely said, "Thank you for your hard work" to Mrs. Garcia. He walked into the kitchen to wash his hands, while Mikayla was inside scooping rice.
"How much do you want?" A week into their marriage, they hadn't eaten together yet, so Mikayla didn't know his appetite.
Mikayla's voice was not loud, and Cayden didn't hear clearly. He turned off the tap, "What?"
Mikayla glared at him impatiently and only scooped rice for herself, shoving an empty bowl into his hand, "Serve yourself."
Cayden raised an eyebrow and silently scooped a full bowl of rice for himself. When he came out, Mikayla had already started eating on her own.
The two ate in silence, but Cayden couldn't help but notice that Mikayla really liked sweet and sour ribs. In just a short while, she had eaten half the plate, savoring every bite.
"Meow, meow, meow~" An orange cat squatted beside Cayden's leg, sniffing his unfamiliar scent curiously.
"What's its name?" Cayden asked, looking at the clingy little cat.
"Orange." Mikayla looked up at him and paused, "You… don't hate cats, do you?"
This cat was a stray that Mikayla had adopted after graduating from university. She had been raising it for over four years. Cayden looked down at the cute orange cat rubbing against his pant leg, feeling a slight ripple in his heart.
"No, it's very cute."
A bit like her.
To be honest, this was considered the first day Mikayla and Cayden formally lived together. Mikayla looked at her aloof husband and boss sitting across from her, feeling a mix of emotions. Yes, Cayden was also her superior.
